Why does HR and management still push a these bs requirements when a bunch if people arent even going to be here. I guess it goes to show how little it matters

PLE is probably the only thing worth doing at AT&T. Not their dumb courses but the nanodegrees that they will pay for from another online school or college. Invest in yourself. It will land you a better role at a company that actually cares about you unlike AT&T.
In my opinion, your longevity at T is going to be based on what you are working on. If what you are doing is legally mandated or in the direction that the company is going...you have a better shot.
If you have friends in high places you don't need to worry about PLE\2020.
PLE has the Compliance Training, and Ratty and Stinky are loading it up with to the max with all their PC BS cr@pulance! The only one that benefits is the company that builds all the courses.
Ratty needs to please the MOP and indoctrinate all the employees and turn them into CNN drones.
When that "Workforce 2020" came about years ago and the message was "If you wish to convey to the company you want to be here longterm, you need to show your willingness to grow your skills." And so, year after year, I would plot out various training programs I thought would be relevant. However, there was never any guidance from senior management – as in where to they believe you as an individual focus on? Never. All the raa-raa about training with no direction. Did the company need 60,000 Python programmers or Data Scientists? In the end, it was just a smoke-screen/distraction, they got me with not being near a collaboration zone, another cover-up as it came with no leadup warning. If they wanted to keep you, they would have at least given hints that you may wish to consider relocating. They didn't care, they just wanted the body count. And consensus seems to be those nano-degrees don't mean much outside the company. If you see one and it is interesting to you, and may help in your job, go for it, but it is not anything that will "save you" if your number is picked.
Because it's something to distract the masses. A way to make you believe "you matter"!!!!!
Total foolishness.
Stop thinking anything you do will matter to them.
They don't care.
They are good at making folks forget the real reason they are at work-and that is to make as much $$$ as possible.
Don't be distracted.
I'm proud of the fact I never took one of those courses. Always thought it was nonsense and a waste of time. Instead I went to a real college that I made att help pay for.
trendy career skills that have been outsourced
My sister was part of an HR Dept. for another big corporation and she laughed all the time when employees thinks HR was there to protect them. Like AT&T HR is not for employees rights but are in placed to protect the company from lawsuits and do what top level management wants them to do. Who do you think pays HR?
So that you can have some exposure to relevant skills in the current workplace so you can BS your way through an interview after T cuts your a–.
I would take all the free training I could get. You need to own what you do next. This is for you not always for them.
Needless to say I won't be doing any b—s— corporate training until close to the deadline. Why would anyone living in job uncertainty do otherwise. AT&T University is a hollow shell of what might have been fairly forward thinking idea back in the day. Now it seems to me it is just a purveyor of corporate nonsense and trendy career "skills". Just plain nonsense.
