Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

CWA members don’t take the cash offers. Force them to declare surplus’s. They then have to use the bargained for packages, which are much better

You do realize the company is the beneficiary of the death policy they took out on you when you hired on don't you (dead peasant insurance). Translation, your worth more to them dead than alive.

You do realize that DTV techs made way more prior to union because they were piece rate.

Unions were created at a time when they were necessary. Federal and State labor laws in today's world render them almost useless.

And I hope T sells us. Addition by subtraction for both parties.

Yes, but time is running out. In the SE you have the buyout, and no surplus announcement for 3rd quarter. That leaves Sept. 15 announcement. After that at the end of the year, if you don't retire, you lose your medicare supplement that was part of your retirement package. But if you retire before then, you may lose it anyways at a later date. The union has just stood by and let that happen like they did in 1998, when they gave away over half of my pension. So if you wait out the company you may lose your medicare supplement. Which is perhaps the reason that was created to get people to retire and lower the health care costs. Higher ups lost 4 billion on a failed merger and to make that up they are taking that out of my pocket.

If surplussed the bargained for package will give out more money if there is not a same job title within 35 miles. You may have to travel more to get to work. If you take the voluntary offer you will get $50,000 plus sipp that will average close to $25,000 for workers with over 20 years at the company. Not bad.

To the Directv employee that says you didn't ask for the union , don't want the union: then give back all of your additional pay that you earned thanks to the union winning it for you guys. Or did you forget that you earn more much more now than you did before directv employees were brought into the union? I've yet to see a Directv employee give back or refuse the additional pay and benefits the union won them.

Many don't realize it was the formation of unions in this country back in the early 20th century that gave us the "standards" we take for granted today: the standard 40 hour work week, Overtime laws, the standard two week paid vacations of year , paid holidays, basic Standard worker rights and protections , child labor laws, employee paid medical and dental Etc. Before that , they didn't exist. The unions helped create the "middle class" we refer to today. It's no coincidence that with the erosion of unions in the U.S over the years , the "middle class" is eroding. Workers are doing more for less , working more than 40 hours, Less benefits , less wages , etc.

Those of you who hate "unions" so much , by all means, give up all the above and tell your employer you are willing to work for them like employees did "pre-union" days of early 20th century (essentially indentured servitude) because otherwise you too are apparently a greedy little union "taker".

Otherwise , it's time the average American worker wises up and rises up again to form unions again as a counterweight to the unchecked greed of corporate America. Enough already. Time to re-establish the middle class and remind corporate America that there is no corporation without its workers.

Jumping Jeebus on a Stick. What's with you T-wats and the "Union This" or the "union That"?

Us legacy DirecTV could give a dead rats behind about this stupid union. We didn't ask for it. Didn't want it. Didn't want you for that matter. But in the end, the "votes" got counted and here we are.

We don't care about your politics, have never ever been told how this company works or what department we even belong to - ATO, AFO, IEFS - who knows and who cares because it has been real clear that T does not even remember they bought our slave behinds.

It's like Lounge Lizard Single Guy T shacked up with hot babe Debbie Does DTV and after getting married in Vegas goes - "What da fucque???? You got kids????".

Truth be told - we DTV guys know our days are numbered - have so since Day 1. Until the reckoning day comes, we milk this cow for all the overtime and six days we can get away with.

I'll stay here doing useful work that can't be outsourced to India or the Chech Republic. There is nothing that the company hates more than the employees because they cost money. The second thing they hate is costumers, because they ask for service, and they cost money. All of which "steals" from shareholder value.

To the one hating on unions and union members....

All one has to do is look how this company treats its managers , its non management non union employees (nmnu) and then look how they treat themselves (the executives). It's the executives of this company that are bleeding the company dry as they give themselves ridiculous million dollar salaries , bonuses , and stock options. Your angry at
Union members for winning decent middle class wages and benefits for themselves when the executives are treating everyone else like yesterday's garbage ? I can only conclude that you are jealous and bitter but your anger should be directed at the "leaders" of this company as they are the one deciding what you are worth when you stand alone. That's why EVERY worker needs a union. It's the only way to protect oneself from the greedy likes of Stankey, Randy, and the rest of their greedy kind.

“They then have to use the bargained for packages, which are much better”

It’s so funny that union lemmings can’t take care of themselves, and are always looking to buck the system. Go luck with your new job of bagging groceries. I think there is a “grocery store worker” union in CA. You might consider moving there. But, don’t get mad when the: sanitation workers, gas pumpers, taxi drivers, fast food workers, hotel workers, telephone workers, restaurant workers, etc, etc, etc. all go on strike, just because they need a better offer. You guys are complete mo–ns. Go get a real life. Oh wait, you need someone else’s to tell you that, because you can’t think for yourself!

I've 34 years in . I'll take the $83K. And in my state I get unemployment because I am taking the place of someone who would be laid off. The company will approve it. Only a fool would turn that down. Last day is 7-17 at the latest.

Mandatory face covering policy notice. Failure to follow policy is in violation of the code of business conduct which can result in disciplinary action. If you believe it's your constitutional right not to wear a mask and decide to test this policy while being paid by at&t, you are risking your job. The company is looking to reduce head count and if you are insubordinate, and after warnings, you can be terminated without a package. Now is the not the time to be rebelling, while on the clock or on at&t property.
