I hear they are cutting 40% of the workforce. That is significant and it makes me wonder if they have another long-term plan. I don’t know who wouldn’t buy this failing company but some like a fixer-upper. Thoughts?

Only companies that could acquire us, Apple, Amazon, or Walmart? Don’t see any of those happening
Warren Buffet is a verizon man.
What the OP meant to say “Hi AT&T employees:-) First I have to say thank you so so much for all of the ad revenue that you are generating for the site (and me), but I need to have you guys riled up again, so please play along with this ignorant post for me. I’m hearing 100k lay off from my sources...oops are did that one already. No what I’m actually hearing is that AT&T is being positioned to be sold....fight, uh I mean...discuss.
very ignorant troll post. AT&T is not for sale or being repositioned for sale, and don't think for a minute that Elliott Mgmt didn't have a say in some of the debt
Don't confuse upper management's propaganda to look good to elliot & the board of directors with the sale of the company. They are just looking for a few more millions in their salary & bonus at the expense of the employees
Randy and Stank don't care what happens in the future. They've timed it so they can take as much as they want before they retire and too bad for everyone else.
I assumed the high debt level was one way to keep from getting purchased by Apple or alphabet (google). Apple had a trillion dollar market cap and 70 billion in cash.
sell to frontier? better take another hit off that bowl bruh...Frontier is in bankruptcy proceedings
It is difficult if not impossible to buy a company with over 200+ billion market cap. No way in their current form can AT&T be purchased. Even Elliott group can not really fight AT&T straight up and push for a sale now. They know no one has that much free cash to spend. Now, if they drop DirecTV and sell wireline to Frontier and drop off Time Warner then yes.
having fiber helps wireless needs fiber.
The only asset worth anything is wireless and the spectrum!
They'll definitely try to sell (what's left of) DTV, but there's probably not much of a market out there for corporate wreckage. After that doesn't work they might go full sleaze and do something like spinning off the wireline business, which they'll load up with their pension obligations so it'd be doomed from day 1. A lot of the layoffs appear to be targeting the wireline business. Could be they're cutting heads to make its balance sheet look better in the event of a spin off. Who knows? You'd have to have the mind of a criminal to be able to anticipate their next move.
I would buy centurylink before att. they have more fiber and pretty decent hosting division although they are doing all they can to destroy that.
I think Bezos could widen his obvious trust to encompass also the network delivery side.
Imagine owning every possible facet of a multinational business and still not having the world's government step in and shatter you.
Physical goods Production, shipping & fulfillment
Digital content production, delivery, management
Network hosting, delivery, management,
Telecommunicaitons Provider
Media Mogul
Apple could acquire the wireless assets with no trouble. The rest could be dumped! Stankey will clear tens of millions!!
I hope ratty and stinky face the fate of this guy...

No one is stupid enough to buy T whole.
But there will be parts that T will sell for pennies that will be gobbled up or spun off . All part of T's usual merger strategy:
- Find some dying acquisition
- Pay 2 or 3 times what the acquisition is worth
- Immediately chase off all the talent in the acquired company
- Proceed to put some T id–t in change of the acquired company, who knows nothing about the business.
- T will run the acquired company into the ground
- T will spin off or sell the acquired company for a penny on the $.
Nobody in their right mind would buy ATT right now with this combination of debt and mismanagement.
Instead they'll wait until Stink and the Eliot people are finished looting and destroying. At that point there may still be debt, but the company will be at the brink and will sell for pennies on the dollar.
No, they are doing what they said they would... shed debt, change focus, and buy back stock.
