Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

McElfresh takes credit for "14 days and gone" on Townhall

"It was my idea because there are no jobs" Well guess what? Did the 16 VP's that were booted today get only 14 days to find a job and did they also get a "voluntary offer" that Jeff announced today that no one else in management was aware of. "We have been offering a voluntary package for 3 months" when asked why wireline CWA technicians got a voluntary offer with a generous kicker yet no one else did. AT&T's "transformation" is to be implemented by L1-L2 Managers that are about to see their life long friends get 2 weeks notice and booted. How does AT&T leadership think that is going to go? a MVO may have avoided what will be now an impossible task as survival will be most managers game plan going forward and not serving our customers in this transformation as was envisioned by the communication of this reorganization. I have never seen this total lack of respect for the frontline managers from senior leadership. A recipe for disaster Mr. McElfresh and after 25 years you should know better.

While they're looking to speed up the process of getting people out the door, I wonder if they're doing anything about the length of time it takes to get people their severance payments. One former management employee told me it took three months, and another four months. I know, silly of me to ask. What a scumbag operation this is.

Not sure how they are getting around the WARN act. It requires that employees be given 60 days notice before leaving payroll.

WARN does not require 60 days notice, it requires 60 days notice OR pay IF there are a minimum percentage of employees in a specific geography impacted AND there are exceptions for when that's required ("business hardship" is one). T only needs to provide 1.5 months of severance, pay, or SIPP to cover their WARN requirements.

Not sure how they are getting around the WARN act. It requires that employees be given 60 days notice before leaving payroll. The catch is it is location specific. So if you stay below the threshold for any given location you can weasel out of it. But if more employees get laid off in a rolling 30 days it would retroactively kick in. Don’t count on them to tell you that or report to the government. Be sure to mention this to your date DOL and unemployment office.

@lsr I would take the non-date to mean immediate. This massive org change becomes effective on July 1 and those VPs won't be part of the new org. A date really isn't necessary.

14 days doesn’t bother me, but the old 30-60 day stuff helped find that next job. Most folks do not get rehired internally anyways. This time there won’t be many, if any, internal jobs. If you think you are on the list, best start looking now. Personally, I’m out. Sick of this place. I hope I’m on the list so they have to pay me to leave. I would volunteer to save someone else if I could, but they aren’t offering that.

He reminds me of the talking Raptor in the 3rd Jurassic park. "alan" with a smirk on his face. Can he just dead pan deliver the news of layoffs and 14 days. He smirks and has mirth in his eyes EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. Man he probably takes joy in squashing bugs. There is something wrong with someone who takes joy in the pain of others.

I posted this in another thread. I noticed that none of the VP announcements included their retirement effective dates neither. Obviously, the company is keeping those secret now, since they got called out on the fact that frontline only gets 14 days, while those SVP retirements announced earlier are getting months, or even until the end of the year before they leave.

McFresh eats crow about collaboration zone mess he made last year. Now he says we are more productive and many will continue to work from home post pandemic. He may have been forced into collaboration zone forced measures by Donovan. in my group we lost four GREAT SME that still hurt while there were lower level performing individuals who worked in big cities.

But he must own this 14 day nonsense. For a company the size of AT&T to force employees out in 14 days is ridiculous. Just the paperwork people have to complete, the assets they have to return, the logistics of understanding about their post employments benefits and severance, not to mention transition of responsibilities, is virtually impossible in 14 days. He will regret this move. Most people are in shock when given their termination notice for few days.

At the end, we are where are not because of Paul Singer and his executioners, but because of id–tic moves of Randall and Stankey. Those two's actions to this great company and bad investments are almost criminal.

What is interesting is that most of the retirement internal systems are so messed up that they tell you to start processing 60 and 30 days out. I am sure McFresh has taken this into consideration.

I agree with Mr. Mcelfresh's decision. Makes total sense to me.
