Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Don't get too comfortable

I see there are people who think we are done for now, and I believe they couldn't be more wrong. For a company the size of AT&T 5K employees is nothing. It's barely 2 percent of the entire workforce. Do you really think they consider that enough? I think we won't be done until AT LEAST 10 percent has received their notifications. And that's just for now.

You all act like there is no fat to trim. There are CO techs on the wireless side that work in buildings that haven’t had working technology going on three years. How the hell do they still have jobs? Plenty of waste to spare. I see 3-4 landline guys huddled around a pedestal almost daily. Cut the fat and let’s move on.

This yearly layoffs, some really big ones, have been happening for the past 20 plus years.... It's not gonna change. Since, AT&T does NOT have a unique marketable product or service, what the hell do you expect? Until AT&T finds or develops a unique product or service, cuts in jobs will be common place.

10% is not even close to realistic. It's going to be 30-40% of the total badged workforce.

Ah yep! I expect, at least 30%. There will be entire orgs let-go. Anyone left, will be tagged as a handler for offshore teams. If there is no requirement that you job be performed onshore...then expect it to go offshore

They'll letting these low numbers trickle out now so the media grabs them, makes some headlines, and moves on. By the time the company is in the middle of massive layoffs in a few weeks, most of the media will have moved on.

My mom-retail org had a townhall call a few days ago and the Hr person said that the notices have started going out and most likely will continue for several weeks and up to a couple months. So we all apparently have to just wait for the surprise notification.

The numbers that have been quoted so far in the media are just union employees in retail sales and the Field Operations org.

That number does not include management or any other organizations within the company.

You can still look forward to HR, Legal, and IT departments in coming weeks/months.

And the numbers quoted are also only current field groups that are being offered the premium +SIPP. This isn’t actually the “surplus”. Another 3 months before they actually surplus techs and the numbers could change by then. This maybe the “best and final offer before they lower the boom.

Also the bulk of techs at this company are Uverse techs. They have already stated they are shutting down Uverse and none of the numbers quoted include those techs.
