Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Finally, some news. Psych.

Sort of.

Earlier today I was on an "all-hands" call for my group (Patel org). It opened with the standard cult-like AT&T indoctrination propaganda. Followed closely by ... no joke ... a celebration. Yep, right at the brink of massive layoffs they decide to "celebrate" service anniversaries, birthdays, and people who got into MDP.

A celebration.

Take a moment to just let that fully sink in.

The next point was to discuss the overall business. Even though ATTTV is on life support, HBO Max was stillborn, fiber is still a broken promise to most of the nation, and DIRECTV & U-verse are completely ignored they managed to smear lipstick on a pig, run through some corporate talking points, and inject a bit of management gibberish to try and make things sound better than they are. The real message: ATTV is on life support, HBO Max was stillborn, fiber is still a broken promise to most of the nation, and DIRECTV & U-verse are completely ignored. Of course, this was followed quickly by a extra-large serving of more ATT kool aid and rah-rah propaganda.

Finally they got to layoff news. It was less than an afterthought – it was treated as last drip of urine you need to shake off after you're finished – uncomfortable, unwanted, best to be rid of as quickly as possible, and definitely an annoyance. The announcement about layoffs took just over a minute (I timed it) and we were told that announcements about layoffs are delayed indefinitely but maybe friday but I don't know but soon but who knows but probably no later than monday but I think friday or before that but it could be later but watch the McElfukker town hall for more info.

That was the extent of information about layoffs, followed immediately by a ham-handed attempt to change the subject and avoid actually saying anything relevant about layoffs or even acknowledging that the people are stressed. The meeting quickly pivoted to how important it is to watch all these "inspirational" videos and town halls by the so-called leaders. Inspirational is in quotes because someone actually said that.

Fork all this. I'm going to do a couple of bowls.

It’s been the same with every org. A bumch or coded speak where one can only hope to decipher the coded message. Meanwhile, keep hammering the message about equality and tell people how to feel and think. The 3rd level boss for me is an id–t, and her delivery of anything and everything comes off as phony. The past 2 wks have been a beat down of emails and “leader messaging” that is over the top. I deactivated my Twitter, so let’s see if the boss says I have to post rah rahs to try to make the company sound like a utopian dream to work for. I’m just heartbroken for people being surplussed in such a short timeline. It’s like they are rushing them out the door.

OP here. I offer my sincere apologies to @ifr for having the poor manners to write something above a 7th grade level. I realize that many AT&T employees may not have the capability or inclination to try and comprehend anything beyond "text spelling".

Hopefully the millennials and the Gen Zers out there can find it in their hearts to forgive this Gen Xer's assumption that they'd be literate.

As the kids say, My bad.

Kids say that, right?

Sounds like they're using a template for these calls now. Your description sounds just like the call for Chow's team, right down to less than 2min spent on reductions
