Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

What would you consider an acceptable severance amount?

One week, two weeks, one month per year? I'm just curious what people consider fair.

You are eligible for unemployment with a severance, as long as HR processes it correctly

I'm pretty sure you can still get unemployment if you get a "severance package"......

At the end of the day you are still out of a job through no fault of your own.

Doesn’t matter what you think is acceptable, they’re policy is 2 weeks for every year of service and you are not eligible for unemployment if you get a severance package.

2 weeks for every year of service is typical. This is a tough environment in which to be laid off.

At least two months, regardless of tenure. The CEO stated that this was NOT related to COVID, and yet they are still doing this when the unemployment rate is incredibly high. This is awful timing and the least the company can do is try to provide a level of short term security if they choose to do this now.

I’d honestly be good with 2 weeks pay per year worked. I am 100% over this job as it is, and that, combined with PTO payout, and unemployment for a few months would give me a much needed break to refresh and move onto the next opportunity.

Folks, look for the silver lining. A lot of the same people who hate their jobs are the same ones practically in tears over this layoff.

For tenured employees IF a severance is offered, they usually cap it at 52 weeks meaning your two weeks of severance for every year employed cannot exceed 52 weeks. Ex: 30 year employee = 60 weeks, it’d be capped at no more than 52.

My wife got let go from another company she got 1 week per year, others that got let go later got nothing. It is a matter of perspective. I still s—s all around.

It's my understanding the severance plan states employees laid off will receive two weeks pay for every full year of service.

90 days or 3 months. We are in a pandemic people won’t be finding jobs with similar pay in a week or two. We are also talking about people who have worked 5, 10, 15 or more years....

I personally think 2 weeks is decent, and one week is an insult.
