Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

DirecTV

Is DirecTV included in this round of surpluses? Read something about hugh cuts in August but heard that before and then nothing happens.

@1sfz

Ok, I just know here there is some work being done with HBO MAX. I work on AT&T TV. AT&T also renewed some contracts with the Indian contracting companies so idk why they'd do that if DTV was going to be sold.

But I'm just an engineer, not a CEO...

@1yek , so people from D3 that are still employed, could be sold along with the D3 contract clause (not sure when it expires, at that that time things could change)

@cmd+15t7U2DX we can’t be sold, we have succession clause in the d3 contract. If it happens whoever buys Dtv has to honor the contract.

HBOMax is under Warner Media not DTV/EG.
ATT TV is an DTV/EG product.
WarnerMedia is hiring 200 Engineers and staff to support HBOMAX and in my opinion will take ATT TV under its wing (Both Streaming Products). That leaves DBS/DTV separated from the businesses that they want to keep in the portfolio.

Please sale Directv back to the original owners and stockholders, they should be bored and come out of retirement and put Directv back to its badass status that it was just a short time ago!Directv was the best television provider in the USA and we don’t need Dish Net work at all!!! Mr. Hughes and the SBS created a great format and programming package years ago and I think Directv has a better chance without Att!I just dropped the microphone!!!!!!

I know we're moving away from satellites as well. We are restructuring our entire architecture to move from satellites to IP.

One of the main potential buyers was DISH. Well, they're a satellite company so I don't know if they are going to be interested.

You also have SpaceX launching low-orbit satellites for their new Starlink project which will be used for IP at much lower latencies than DTV/DISH.

DTV is making the right move away from satellite because Starlink is the future in that regard. I don't see anyone else lining up to buy DTV. And with AT&T so invested with AT&T TV and now HBO MAX, I don't see a sale happening.

Techs today that were from dtv that are currently doing internet are being moved back to dtv and will no longer do internet. Reason is they are preparing to sell dtv and they need installers to be sold also.

"I seriously doubt we will be sold since we're developing AT&T TV, HBO MAX, etc."

You do know that so far those two products are major failures? Do you think they will even make it two years with no real paying new customers?

@jdo : I think it is going to be sold, if not why will we see in Q3 all Video operations together hanging from the same person?

DTV is now a part of the dysfunctional AT&T family, so yes, there will be layoffs among those of us who work in that part of the business.

As for it being sold ... that's just another lie that came about because some False News id–t decided to speculate on the air about it. It was 100% conjecture, but the more gullible (i.e. people who actually believe False News) took it as if it were chiseled in stone by god and brought down by moses.

Besides, Stankhole hasn't finished destroying DIRECTV yet. T won't sell it until it's completely worthless.

I work at DTV (engineering) and we have planned work for the next 2 years at least. I seriously doubt we will be sold since we're developing AT&T TV, HBO MAX, etc. There have been contracts renewed recently as well.

Not saying it won't happen, just unlikely. Lay offs on the other hand are always possible. Q4 last year was really bad.

Speculation is that DTV is being prepared to be sold.
