Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Cruel - we have all heard issues with layoffs at AT&T but 14 days is too short to work through the issues

Been trying to keep positive but the 14 day off payroll process is full of problems and just a complete sh-t show. Benefits Q&A are really helpful given that the prompts at the benefits 800 number are messed up and the benefits call center people are giving wrong information. However, the Exit Process Overview Workshop today was the last straw. AT&T employees are good people, emphasis on people. There was one lady on the call who had been with AT&T for 30 years reporting that when she went to the Middletown building to start to clean out here office there were NO masks - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! These good AT&T employees stressed with uncertainty being unemployed during COVID trying very hard to understand how to do the right thing in this abbreviated 14 day window were repeatedly muted during the Exit process overview call as if they were naughty grade school children. I’m sorry, it just made me cry. Whomever is in charge of this “surplus” should be fired today (and whomever come up with the name “surplus” should be fired with them). OMG the people running the Exit overview just told everyone to send email to the surplus email to get their questions answered and dropped from the call 12 minutes before the scheduled end time (the brainchild who decided email was the way to handle questions about this abbreviated layoff should be fired too). Treating AT&T employees who just lost their job like garbage - well, that is a reflection of what upper management themselves and what upper management thinks if ALL AT&T employees. This is no way to run a fortune 100 company. How the heck is AT&T going attract talent you graduated if the treat employees this way?

This post sums up what AT&T can and most continually make cuts.

Anyone who didn’t expect the environment after notification wasn’t paying attention. Call after call stated what was going to happen. Grab your pictures and leave already. It’s over.

The lack of knowledge and empathy displayed by the HR people running the call was alarming and disrespectful. I left the call disgusted that I wasted an hour of my life. It is clear that they are having the people with the least experience act like tier 1 support on these calls. My whole career I have always put forth my best for this company, I feel sorry for those who remain.

" He is forcing the hand of AT&T. But they only came to be because of mistake after mistake by Randally and Stankey pair. In a way, Elliott is doing good. He stopped company from purchasing more id–tic companies. He is pushing company to sell assets"

For then love of God please stop calling Elliott Management "he". It's not some dude. Thanks

I agree! I was on that call and it was awful...just awful! One thing I want to point out is READ, I know it’s a lot, but just read what’s been provided so far. It answers a lot of questions that people were asking about.

However, it is unfortunate how many cannot access links and sites that are required for employees to view. This should have been handled better and we should be treated better!

Sorry op just remember to try to keep positive and focus on the task at hand and make sure they don’t short you of money.

Att will get what is coming to them eventually because karma sux. Just never recommend att to anybody as a place of work or to buy anything from. They are unethical and should never be trusted.

I listened to McFresh last open mike session and follow-up Q&A. He clearly said he is the one that made the decision for employees to be off payroll in 14 days. Because he said there are no jobs and he wants people to get a move on with their next career and associated search. So let's not blame Elliott group for that. Elliott does what wall street hedge fund vulchers do. He is forcing the hand of AT&T. But they only came to be because of mistake after mistake by Randally and Stankey pair. In a way, Elliott is doing good. He stopped company from purchasing more id–tic companies. He is pushing company to sell assets. And yes, they are definitely wanting more employees cut, but the last 5-6 years i have seen Randall and Stankey cut 20,000 average employees any way. So blame Elliott perhaps for forcing more cuts than would have occured otherwise, but don't blame them for this 14 day fiasco or why we are where we are.

They're probably not wearing masks because they are hoping they will drop dead from the Covid than having a slow painful death existing here.

I went to an office yesterday because I had to.
That office also had no masks despite the global email going out two weeks ago saying masks would be provided.

Ridiculous shower of shyte

"Most other companies walk your a– out the same day and have boxes and security guards waiting for you. " what world do you live in? Transitioning complex technical work or business relationships from the departing employee to someone who remains in the company just makes good business sense.

I believe slimey T is trying an end run around the 60 day WARN notice. They want you to sign the paperwork as quickly as possible because it states you won't sue them. The DOL does not enforce the WARN notice policy, that's left up to the individuals and their lawyers. Maybe someone that doesn't need the severance money will file a lawsuit and it will get class action status.

This company is run by the slimiest bunch of people on the planet. One of these days, they'll get what's coming to them, I just hope I'm around to see it.

And the employees might be the largest stockholders, but it's through their 401K and Blackrock controls that. You really think Blackrock is going to vote against T's slimy management. Also, take a look at the bond fund. 28% is AT&T bonds. If you have money in the 401K bond fund or T stock, you are financing T cutting your throat.

you are to give 2 weeks notice if you leave right? Gave yiu tried to reach out to HR?
THEY ARE without any doubt THE MOST USELESS, incompetent, and entitled group in this sh– company. They talk for hours and don't say sh–!

As far as your replacements lets hope Bias, Racism, and Quiet Discrimination at AT&T is mitigated by an actual new competent Human Resources Group

When I was "surplus'd" March last year I took the 60-day option, I was actually looking for other positions in the company, but the other teams/departments I would have fit were also hit with the surplus, so it didn't ultimately matter. There was one question I had had about the exit process - I forget what it was now but it was important to me at the time (the 1st day, reading everything), and I emailed the HR representative in Dallas that was specifically for this. It took him 14 days to reply, I had found out the answer in the meantime. Yeah, it takes about the full 14 days just for HR to process everything. Definitely feels cold and mechanical from above.

I am so sorry you and others were treated this way. There is no excuse for it, although I am not surprised. Take care and best wishes going forward. You are right, there is little chance that ATT will be getting much in the way of engineering talent in the future.

I am the original poster, I messed up the end of my post because I was so upset. It should read "Treating AT&T employees who just lost their job like garbage - well, that is a reflection of what upper management are themselves and what upper management thinks of ALL AT&T employees (not just the ones most recently laid off). This is no way to run a fortune 100 company. How the heck is AT&T going attract talented new employees if they treat the current employees (or recently laid off employees) this way?" The people who were running the Exit Process Overview Workshop carelessly left the bridge up so the employees who are muddling through this convoluted process started to help each other with answers to questions (someone knew the answer to one question; someone else knew the answer to another question; someone started sharing their screen to show folks the hidden button on benefit site that allows you to schedule an appointment with a benefit specialist instead of wasting hours waiting on hold multiple times because the information given out by the call center benefits staff is just WRONG). Good golly the people who were just laid-off were laid-off through no fault of their own, some reported that they earned top performance ratings the last few years in a row during their performance reviews. Please treat them/us with some respect and give us back our dignity. And hey there Elliot Management (likely driver behind this cost-cutting fiasco of a layoff, 14 days, pfffft) better watch out because AT&T employees are the largest stock holders/voting block out there and we are starting to organize.
