Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

MR75

I was surplused a year ago and here is what I found.

MR75
Age 50yrs + Time in service 25yrs
Age 55yrs + Time in service 20yrs
There is another for 60yrs old....I think it was 60yrs + 10yrs
Upon surplus they allowed me to give up 50% severance to get 2yr credit on either set of years.

Med/Dent Subsidize
I was hired into Ameritech and you only get Med/Dent Subsidization if hired prior to Aug 1st 1997.

Pension
Maxes out when you hit MR75 years.
Giving up 50% severance has no impact.
Overall if you are not working for AT&T until you hit MR75 you don't get full max pension. (I lost 50%)

Call benefits people and ask for specific details applicable to you. Don't trust what others tell you.

OP is correct, but may have left out some info.
If you are a surplused manager you may qualify for MTP (Manager Transition Plan).
If a manager is within 24 months of making MR75, the MTP allows a 2 year bridge to make it to retirement benefits.

  • the 24 month bridging is for benefits only, not pension
  • the MTP applicant severance is reduced an additional 50% from the normal 50% severance offer

If I’m 54 I get very little. At 55 I get $390K union group 1 craft with 24 years. Mr75 unlocks a large pension increase for people on the old plan.

The rule of 75 is done with 5 year increments for both age and service. If you're 56 with 31 years of service it would be 55+30.. Also call and check your numbers. I recieved my paper work and it had no accumulation of pension prior to 2010. It was missing about $130k.

The fact that some people still cannot seem to understand what MR75 is just mind blowing. Honestly folks.

I know someone who was surplused with the 7/10 cuts and the off payroll date is a month away from MR75 eligible. OP, how did you get approval for the 50% severance/2 years? I bet this person would do the same for the eligibility! It sounds like all they’re being told is 50% surplus for health insurance not full MR75 able to retire status. Did you do that through HR or Fidelity? HR is of course not helping my friend.

MR75 is way more than 6mo benefits.
Let say I saved my money big time. (bank and 401K)
I hit the MR75 I can retire w/Supplemented Med/Dent
The supplemented Med/Dent adds up to a great deal over time.
Remember, if you decide you want to retire at 60 the question is.......what are you going to do for that MANDITORY BY LAW Medical Insurance requirement when Medicare doesn't kick in until 62.5yrs old.
Also after you do get Medicare/cade often you need to buy a supplemental plan to cover extra costs....well.........the AT&T Med/Dent covers those needs.

Yep, I was bounced last year also. I was MR75. You have to be AT LEAST 50 yrs old, OR any age with 30 or more years in service, which is pretty hard to do unless you started at 18... But definitely there are differences depending on if you originated from a company that was absorbed, or SBC, or original AT&T, and if you are bargained or management level. Oddly, Fidelity is the keeper of your original NCS date of hire, that's where you know for sure where you stand. But agree, check with the Benefits Dept. to get your personal specifics.

ATT owes you nothing! You are a big boy. Take care of yourself! If you no longer have any skills, then that is your fault, not ATT’s
