My best friend was fired for not making sales. They observed him endlessly and finally found missteps. The union says there is nothing they can do even in a PANDEMIC! I have lost all faith in CWA!

I agree. The Union is the worst. I have been messing around with low performance, late for work and absences and they won't do squat. I did get a raise and some other benefits but I need MORE! I will never attend a meeting because it's a waste. It's easy to type my disgust when my feelings are hurt cause I can do that on the job. The only love I get is from HR, my supervisor and Mom.
As someone in retail for a decade, I always hated the Union. Half of retail and installers wouldn’t have a job more that 6 months of it wasn’t so hard to fire them. In 10 years in retail I didn’t miss maybe 7 days or work and was late 2 times both of which I called ahead and said I was going to be late and I don’t mean the not late like work starts at 8am and I clock in at 8:05 so I’m not late. I mean on time. Never missed a goal (except DTV Now) because I told sales managers I wasn’t going to push a product no one wanted. Retail is the easiest job in AT&T and people complain when they get fired. It’s almost impossible to get fired in retail unless you are stealing or just don’t come to work. Also, don’t cuss even if you think no one cares.
Were the terms of the contract violated? Or did managers use the words from the contract to discipline the employee? CWA doesn’t have an ability outside of the contract they negotiated for you including those pay raises no one seems to hate to force AT&T to do anything. Electing kmembers to congress and the White House have weakened unions for 40 years and somehow they still have negotiating power that dipshits like you take for granted. If you want to blame anyone blame your friend for taking his job seriously enough to overcome the added scrutiny.
Again. People thinking the CWA has any say whatsoever in hiring or firing or otherwise running the business.

I agree with everyone- if you’re in sales then you better make those numbers otherwise you will be gone - that’s everywhere not just att.
Why would a pandemic change things? There is the usuals, particularly disparity in treatment. If they evaluated the fired worker differently than other workers, or provided less warning letters than they normally provide.
Generally, except for certain kinds of misconduct, they have to issue a Final Warning. There is a process on this to make a firing grievance proof. I have the book. Either they followed it or they didn't. The company has dealt with union relations for decades. However, the individual supervisor may have screwed up, There should have been a Final Warning. This firing shouldn't be a surprise.
If your friend was fired for sales performance, this has been an ongoing issue, and were disciplined several times. Ultimately, they failed to do the job they were hired to do. What did you expect the outcome to be?

If you don’t have the numbers they will find something to write you up over or increasingly make your action plans more difficult. The only way to keep your job is ultimately to sell.

CWA is the most worthless Union on the planet and always has been! They’re essentially powerless in ATT! There are L1 & L2 managers doing whatever they want completely circumventing the CBA and getting away with it because they know the Union is a joke! My advice, don’t join if you don’t have to!!!
