I don’t understand how every non bargained employee gets 8 weeks paid parental leave (mom or dad) EXCEPT union employees. Also only union employees get attendance points and can lose their job for being a few minutes late a handful times a year. Why are so many things worse being bargained for than every other employee? The only upside is being represented in a grievance.

I loved my 8 weeks paid parental leave and all the other benefits I got when I left the union and went to a non-bargained role!
Ask CWA. I do not miss leaving the union. Since I left, we had a baby and were fortunate enough to be given the 8 weeks of paid leave. Layoffs (so far) have also been at least somewhat performance-based rather than seniority. When it was the latter (i.e., union), we lost some of our best people because they had not been with the company 20 years. There are some perks to the union, but it is not all rainbows and unicorns as they have you believe. They do far less for you than you do for them (CWA at least).
This is hilarious. When my daughter was born I was in retail and at 8:28am the next morning (i was already scheduled for vacation) I got a text from my assistant manager asking if I was coming to work. And this poster wants 8 weeks paid for a dad???
It's all in what was negotiated with the Union rep's when the contract was done. Everything is in black and white. Maybe next time, a union rep's with gut enough to care.
It’s illegal to give union employees less than non union employees but CWA doesn’t care
FMLA is unpaid though. Non-union employees get 8 weeks PAID.
It's called FMLA. You get 90 days.
Unless you are bargained IHX in Arkansas. When we unionized we lost parental leave and sick pay. Also now we are much more heavily micromanaged and people actually get put on discipline more and quicker than before. I voted against unionization but they didn’t listen and most wish we never did it.
In IHX I got 8 weeks when my wife had a baby last year. Now I am in retail as an RSC and I get nothing for our next due in December. I can take FMLA but that is unpaid. Ridiculous!
District 4 gets 2 weeks Paternity leave. Not sure what the maternity leave is, but it is obviously mor significant.
We get 2 weeks paid paternal leave.
Non union employees get 8 weeks paid parental leave for birth or adoption. It’s pretty sweet. We use it in IHX
Are you crazy? We get zero paid leave for that or anything else.
