Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Texas I and R to be prem techs soon

So far what we have seen on this site has been right on, seems like the company is decimating the I and R here in texas!
Was on a call with management Friday everyone that took the money from other departments are being matched with a cst by end of the week!
Whats left is being treated more and more as if we were prem techs!!!
Is that where were headed? I and R and prem techs all one crew?

They offered all technician except Prem Techs in Houston a severance. It called Voluntary severance package all you had to do was put in for it. Prem techs are over paid for what they screw up anyway.

It’s already happening in D4.

And YES, I can hear the frustration in your comments Mr. ABFS technician. I guess I would be upset too if I was being pushed more into the transport universe with Specials techs (well, not really “special” anymore, right??). That job, just like ABFS, is only a shell of what it used to be before. Special Services has basically been a garbage truck since AT&T (sorry, SBC’s) assimilated all the RBOC’s back in the 2000’s. I remember when both Special Services and ABFS (BCS and Advanced Services before that) were highly respected and sought after departments for their technical expertise and Customer 1st attitude. So sad to see what they have become....Basically, Specials runs around on non-designed broadband at small businesses and residential locations all day and ABFS techs are stuck on inside wiring, WiFi and “smart” hands and eyes projects for restaurants and coffee shops.

The integration of IPBB (IP Broadband) prem/wire techs in with legacy I&R/Cable techs has been moving full steam since last October. It has only been delayed by COVID and all of the reorg stuff. My guess is that Prem/Wire techs, legacy I&R techs and Cable maintenance techs will all be reporting to the same manager in all regions by the end of the year if not sooner.

Just offer me a severance and put me out of my misery already. So tired of dealing with this company's BS.

As an ABFS technician, bring it on! If we’re going to all be laid off then let it happen already! I no longer give a damn anymore! Have been taken for granted for too long by this company and vice-versa! It’s time to move on and never look back!

The total stupidity was in believing customers wanted to have 2-3 techs dispatched on a single customer report and do it efficiently. All about costs. At one time our technician costs were 20-25% above our competition. This was a attempt to flatten that curve. The Uverse product by itself never made money without bundling. Company never figured out how to increase margins using this mix. Do you increase your costs by having higher paid employees do the work or inconvenience some by multiple dispatches and lose customers. About 3-4 years ago started seeing uptick in customer losses due to pricing of the product. Believe that was the timeframe the Union agreed to let the Prem techs work further in the network in some areas.

That’s how it should be. The total stupidity of having prem techs put in I N R helper tickets is ludicrous. Prem techs not being able to test cable pairs correctly when they are trying to solve customers sync issues is just bad customer service. I would hope that the company would eliminate the prem tech title and give all prem techs INR titles with wages to match, but I doubt that will happen. It would also finally give the INR techs with 20-23 years of service finally some seniority security as well. It totally s—s to have been hired in 2000 and still the lowest in seniority.
