Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

How Allstate is going to reduce severance offers for regional cuts

From regional officer who has already been told they are cut: During the 60 day notice they are going to offer regional employees remote jobs in front line roles with CCC or agency services where there are openings at reduced pay bands. Refusal of these job offers will be considered voluntary resignations and not eligible for severance. This is how the company is going to get out of having to pay out a lot of severance packages. They know a lot of cut employees are going to voluntarily refuse these offers. Severance will be mainly for higher pay bands (officers, director) in which front line roles are not feasible.

It’s plausible. The carrot is dangled you can be laid off and have to purchase insurance or take a lower paying job with insurance. It’s terrible for workers to go down that low in pay.

Well I can tell you from my own observations that this company has moved employees from a role into a lower pay band front line job instead of laying off. I agree that there are laws and regulations against such things but this company has done it. Maybe those being moved were just in such need of a paying job that they did not challenge. I am not disputing what you are saying at all but this company has done this more than a few times in the past.

@3uhj+15U19pUd there are legal protections for employees concerning what moves are authorized and what are not. An employer can change your job description as long as it is in line with what you were hired for. An example is that a person in new agent education can have their job shifted to teaching staff or employees at a call center about selling insurance since that is still education, that is legal for the company to do. The company can't take a person in new agent education and tell them they will now be in the call center answering calls, that goes against the legal protections employees have. They also must keep you in the same pay band, the legal protections afforded workers do not allow them to reduce your pay. The way the company or any company can get around that is to lay everyone off then tell them if they want to they can apply for the new posted jobs and those new posted jobs would have to have a new title and could have a lower pay band. That is legal and I have seen that happen a few times in other companies, they cannot however make you apply to another position if they are laying you off.

I have personally seen times when areas were "lift and shift" from one area to a completely different area instead of a layoff package:

1) CCC back off was moved to CCC front line calls instead of package.
2) Fulfillment moved to CCC front line calls instead of package
3) Claims front line moved to agency services front line calls instead of package
4) FSL's moved to agency services.

So if you are not in a ccc call center job already , you most likely would nit be shifted and lifted to that’ area?

Lift and shift is lifting you from your current manager and shifting you to a new manager, a lift and shift keeps you in the current band and current job title although what you do in the job could change a bit, of course that happens all the time to us.

"Lift and shift is basically taking you a group of people and lifting them out of their current role and dropping them into a role of need. For example lifting out of CCC back office and onto the phones which happened a few times in the past. "

So 10 weeks of training and $15 an hour and it’s still unclear if you could get unemployment if you refuse it.

Depends if they lift and shift your role into that line of work instead of laying off which has been done in previous RIFs. Otherwise you will have the opportunity to apply.

Would you be told you have to accept the job? If you don’t , would you still be considered laid off and get unemployment ?

Yes it is. The main positions that are being offered are front line reps in Customer Contact Center and Agency Services. The high turnover positions. Some may be repurposed into these roles based on need.

They are out of their FREAKING minds! I don't want to to work for $15 to have an even more stressful Allstate experience. I've already been through a lay off with this company before I won't be back here again!

With a lift and shift would they match your current pay?

I don't really believe what the OP is saying here but they can offer the dreaded "lift and shift" which they have done on other RIF's. If you don't accept the "lift and shift" you are considered voluntarily resigning.

You have to apply for the positions first. Only if you apply, get offered the position, and turn it down, will your severance be stopped. Stop spreading fake news.

That's a job that have two shifts. Work at least one weekend day is part of the normal work week.

Very sneaky. There is always high turnover in CCC and agency services frontline phone positions due to the stress and hostile work conditions. Offer a "job" for a position that is always needed but never desired knowing overly qualified people will deny the "opportunity" and therefor giving up their qualification for severance benefits as they will pretty much be "quitting" instead of being laid off.
