Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Allstate Employee Slow Death

Allstate employees started being affected negatively when Jerry Choate retired in the 90s. He was a homegrown product of the company and really valued its employees. He was replaced by Ed Liddy in 1999 and that’s when the suffering began as he was an outsider millionaire who had no loyalty and began cutting expenses and opportunities. Prior to his arrival, Allstate generally promoted from within and was committed to build bench strength from its ranks. Tom Wilson replaced him which was bad for employees. He was the wrong person for the job! Ironically he was VP of Strategy for Sears and you’ve all seen where that strategy lead them. He has no personality or people skills which affect his ability to inspire or lead employees. I feel bad for current Allstate employees as I worked during the good times prior to the arrival of these two clowns. Hang in there if you can but be prepared to make a move as it sounds like things could get worse before they get better.

This post is is spot on! I am a 20 plus year agent. Current & previous CEO have forced rolling phones to after hours, writing business after hours and assigning to any agent they choose. buying e-surance, now going to Allstate direct, offering a lower rate than agents can offer. And buying back massive amounts of Allstate stock. These 2 have never done anything to grow market share. They have shipped jobs abroad, sold properties, anything to pump up short term gains. Sad times.

As an ex-employee of 32 years I can attest that every word you said is true. I feel terrible for all the friends I left behind. The company has been gutted from the inside out and employees are nothing but tools to make a profit

I couldn't agree more!!!! Unfortunately this is the current state of corporate America. No boundaries. Year after year they cut employee benefits and salaries. They use " industry benchmarking" as a tool to reduce salaries. They take away responsilities by job title knowing that in the future when they run the report again they can justify reducing the salary ranges. They continually test the waters to see what they can get away with. I love this company because of the employees and I will continue to speak out. Change can only come from within. It starts with us.
