Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anyone think bankruptcy is in the future?

I was let go last March 30 days before my 20 year anniversary with 6 months severance and two weeks to find something internally (what a joke!). I’m starting to think I was lucky compared to what’s happened since. Does anyone think desperate times call for desperate measures?

You must prove on paper that your business is a financial disaster. AT&T is so regulated, not to mention under a financial microscope over everything. We may have a lot of debt, but we also make a lot of money, and pay our debts and do a great job of managing finances, including collections. So, all the indicators would say no, we are not going to file bankruptcy. Now, with RS gone, who was known for making a lot of bad decisions, and even going against better advise like from the government telling them to not buy T-Mo, and DTV and TWM. So, who knows now days, if Stankey would make a bone headed move like that and it backfire? We all have yet to see how the new regime will operate. I for one feel that they will to a great job in turning this back into a very profitable company. People will once again value their blue chip stock status and big dividend payouts.

My reason for asking was the possibility of using the bankruptcy laws to restructure or eliminate some debt. I had heard rumors that it was a possibility.

You were lucky to get 6 months severance pay back then. T nowhere close to bankruptcy. Company making money, they just want to make more. Way overleveraged due to massively dumb deals and a t mobile deal fail penalty, but won't sink them, just will weigh them down to make some desperate decisions. Kind of like a medical doctor who went into too much debt with stupid purchases. As long as he quits spending he will be ok because he makes $400k per year. Plenty of poor money manager doctors out there, and t had plenty of poor money manager exec's also, especially rs and cronies.

Honestly I dont see any new revenue streams for ATT . First time in 25 years that there is no obvious future growth for us. I would like to personally thank Randall for the implosion of our business . 9 years of listening to him pontificate on how we all had to make ourselves RELEVANT buy 2020 , because the future was so bright , that us lug-heads were going to be left behind in the march to prosperity and riches !!! Haha !!! Ohhhh what a farce !

No, the company makes around 48 Billion in profit annually even with the debt. They’ll probably sell or spin off DirecTV and parts of Warner Media and pay off the debt while continuing to reduce work force... might even see rural wireline abandoned/sold/given away but no, they won’t go bankrupt. Company might end up with under 100k employees and smaller wireline footprint but leadership and investors will do whatever it takes to keep this company profitable without you, me or anyone else

yep possible. wireless service s—s and people are walking. once the wireless service crashes and burns they will go bankrupt. everyone here says they are a cash cow then if they have so much cash then pay off the debt.

has att come up with anything that people really want and are not locked in by contracts?

No way, T is a cash cow, mobility brings in reliable revenue every quarter, and with 5G and wireless broadband initiatives coming down the pike that will increase.

Cash flows are still incredible. At the end of the day, despite all the challenges, things like Mobility and Business bring in a ton of cash.
