Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I too got the dreaded phone call yesterday.

Over 25 years, while I qualify for MR75 i was hoping to go another 4 years b4 leaving. Job was not bad, worked exclusively from home for over 5 years now, made decent money. Get a bonus each year. I am blessed. So now I have a tough decision to make.

I have a side business which does not make much but can grow to be much more than I make at t. Been doing it for a while now. I have to decide if I should go full pedal to metal for the next 6 months or go look for a job which will more than likely pay less than what I am making. Decisions decisions. Lol. Anyway i am going to drop at least two T services.

I just check the magenta company and if I switch my mobile to them i will pay less than I am paying NOW. I am over 55 and their 55+ service which is better than Ts service (yeah they Throw in direct tv or HBO but we all know dtv Is dead but for the funeral) ill hold on to home phone, digital life for now and will re-evaluate internet.

Yes t will save money by getting rid of many of us, but they will loose:

  • 1) good will, one bad customer tells many others who will tell many others etc.
  • 2) loose those former employees as customers.

Good luck to all.

You worked from home the last 5 years. You had your share of time making free money. Time for you to be on your way. Don’t go away mad. Just go away.

The only real benefit for retired is health insurance, and home internet. Everything else can be had cheaper elsewhere. I do have AT&T TV Now, and that cost is offset by having unlimited internet.

To the person that doesn’t understand DTV has one leg in the ground, DTV NEVER had a down quarter in customers till just after AT&T bought them. They are loosing 100k customers a quarter or more sometimes. DTV customer service is worse than anything I have ever seen these last few years. It was bought for $68B and when it gets sold it bet it sells for about 1/3rd of that.

speaks volumes when you go to another company for wireless service and you get a better deal than what you were getting with the employee discount. sad.

I think it depends on where you live....Most cant live on the pension from 25 yrs service and may still be way too young for Social Security. If a person has kids in college or other expenses etc. Property Taxes where I live alone are upwards of 16K a year.

If you have over 25 years of service it is silly to be bitter. All good things eventually come to an end. Yes it s—s not to be able to end the relationship on one's own terms, but think of the great thing it was not how it ended.

Retire now - cancel all ATT services, Sell the house, Close the business and buy a rv and wonder the nation while gas is cheap.

No one wants DTV, its bleeding customers. We will see what happens. I dont care as I plan to ditch as many services as I can. Moving on, i wish them all the best, but I expect they wil be just like ATT In the last 1990s/2000’s they dont have any services people are clamoring for or people cannot get cheaper elsewhere. They will have to continue cutting jobs.

I got outsource last year. My DTV bill went up from 10 to 167$ and home security also by 10$. I cut both the services, went to streaming and Ring. I am saving almost 200$ month

DTV dead? Nonsense. J understand the wishful thinking but that's just T making excuses. 18 million customers paying on average $100 plus a momth? We are good, it is T that can't pay it's bills.
