Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

D Day

Saying prayers for everyone. Supposedly there is life outside of AT&T. And it’s a damn good one. Just want to throw out, that everyone is an asset and any company would be lucky to have a skilled fortune 10 company employee.

You are worth something, don’t forget it.

Just have to remind myself of that in times likes these 🙏🏻

I was laid off last year in March with the big layoffs as a manager and was upset for working more then 20 years of service, did not feel my work was appreciated. Worked hard, always came in and had a lot of projects on my list. Because I was not in one of the hub cities I was cut. Was the only one from the Bellsouth region in the group. Several months later after being unemployed I was able to find a job doing Telecom but for a company I thought I would never work for. Today I have been there almost 1 year and have learned a lot in the time working there. Great people and I’m great full to have a job. Yes pay was not the same but it’s good pay and flexible with hours. I have kids also and had to make changes but happy to have a job. There is life after At&t, trust me. Stay positive and always stay relevante. Keep your options open and always consider looking outside of the telecom world for that job. Did I tell you I love doing what I’m doing. Feel appreciated and great full. Good luck to anyone who reads this and is impacted.

The reason this is happening is ego fed greed. Some exceptionally highly paid id–ts decided to make a name for themselves and drive a very profitable but stodgy company into more debt than any company in history.

These same id–ts walk away with piles of cash and laugh all the way to the bank. They leave the company vulnerable to a greedy shark like Elliott Management that could care less about the employees. And the current execs don't care about the employees either.

The new guy talks about pushing fiber but the existing footprint is tiny. Need lost of capex to expand it.

They pull the valuable media properties back to a few ill defined media platforms restricting the number of people that can see them and restrict the revenue they can generate.

But we have 5G! Well, the low band won't have the high throughput. Midband and millimeter will require a lot of capex to build out and fiber to feed the towers.

Oops.

If you get canned 7/10, you are really are one of the lucky ones. This will continue for at least 3 more years. Get out now and find your next job 'cause T doesn't care about you! These execs are the most tone deaf bunch of mo–ns I've ever seen. It will be a complete and total accident if their plan works. You just can't cut employees and sell enough real estate to pay off this debt.

And you can bet the T-Mobile and Verizon sharks are circling the severely wounded T carcass and getting ready to pounce. It's going to get ugly and T isn't ready for a war. Too much debt, high dividend, high capex needs, and Elliott wants his blood money.

And yes, I'm getting canned tomorrow.

Just remember life goes on. As long as you're on the sunny side of the dirt instead of 6' under it, you've got a fighting chance for happiness. Rational resiliency is perhaps the most critical trait in life. In the long run it will matter absolutely none at all what salary you ever made or ever will make. Just keep on trying and count your blessings, like your family to start the list at the top...

I think we’d all be fine if there wasn’t Covid

Some of us over 50 will not be able to find the same salary ever again. I have 2 girls in college, 2 very sick parents. Now I have to start over during a pandemic.....

We are all being replace by cheap labor. Go figure, a very blue company who could care less about employing Americans

NONE OF THIS HAD TO HAPPEN AND TELL EVERYONE TO DUMP T SERVICES
