Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why are we selling our gaming business?

The gaming industry is booming and is projected to keep growing at astounding speed for years - and our genius leadership can't wait to unload it instead of investing in it. But no, we have to put every dime we have into making HBO Max a success - even if everything points to it being anything but.

Can we get some leadership that actually knows how to run a company? Please?

Because someone at a Hollywood movie producer's party told Stankey that games are not media, and sadly knowing no better, he believed them without any further research and decided to act quick and show his deadly catlike reflexes and throw it out of t in order to save us all.

Games are what the people wanted, specially during covid19 locked down, It is simply against this company's DNA to give/sale people what they wanted. They called it non-strategic asserts.

They figured out how to escape. Stankey walked in and saw people playing games. Didn't know what QA testing was so didn't believe them when they tried to explain. Decided it was easier to sell them off like property instead of firing them.

Simple: The longer it stays with T the more it depreciates. T puts no effort into improving these smaller sectors within the company, Stankey would probably say that he knows more about gaming than they do and would mess it up.

It’s a fire sale—a desperate act, by desperate Stank.

probably for the better to keep it alive. att can't do anything that is cutting edge or agile. so in the end att will probably screw it up so bad it will die and have to start somewhere else anyway.

To read that the company doesn’t have the capital to develop the gaming business and continue to expand the fiber and spectrum. They aren’t going to be able to compete with the big gaming houses anyway. I’d think it’s a plus considering how the company continues to suffer from an identity crisis due to leadership failures. Google the gaming sell off, and it will make sense.

It's all the above out of touch generational leadership, the markets, the need to convert some assets to pay off their time Warner debt. Same reason they're getting rid of their iconic NYC address , they need money..

Also everyone here makes the mistake that the current leadership cares beyond the next quarter or two, they don't. It's all about next earnings call and how much can I pad my cushion for my golden parachute landing. So many of these old timers are looking to retire in the next year or two..

I'm sure Microsoft will purchase it and make Batman an Xbox Exclusive. Just how Spiderman is exclusive to playstation.

They need to sell it before Stankey outsources game development to IBM.

Maybe selling it now is the best thing to do with it, before we do anything like screw it up and make it worthless. Sad though, I thought it was awesome we got into the gaming business, the 25 and under market with something cool, also in current times and also big business and growing.

unfortunately my sister has HBO Go and the app is soo poor compared to Netflix one that she will stop that subscription, sad ... (no way to jump the intro, getting stuck, difficulty to go through at some point in the movie etc)

Because we have traditionalists as leaders. They think pay TV and home phones is the way to be successful. Gaming is huge and we should be embracing that, we should be embracing wireless tech and innovating in that stage as well. AT&T has lost its way long ago with Randall and Stankey at the helm. Its sad.

The same reason we bought Dish. 50-60 year old white leaders who hire their friends. They get their own talking points parroted back. Everyone is afraid to tell them they are making a bad business decision. In this case they are being led by the investors who have no idea.
