Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What happened to all the lay off announcements that were to start today?

Can this company prolong the agony any further? For days, weeks, months, even starting last year, 2020 will be a bloodbath, followed up by numerous emails and videos. And Nothing. And half way through this year. What is going on?

The largest surplus in AT&T’s history will take place on Friday. Then 2 weeks to be out the door with no applying to other jobs in the company. If you’re one if the several thousand that are impacted this time around, good luck!

As has been said in other threads, HR and Fidelity can’t process all of the lay-offs at once, so there will be a big hit on Friday, then lay-offs will continue in dribs and drabs through the summer, with another big hit in the 4th quarter.

As with every other recent T release I'm sure this one was botched from the start because of laziness, incompetence, hubris, and just a general lack of ability to get anything done right.

But that doesn't mean the word isn't on the way ...

We heard end of July or early Aug by our AVP. When asked about the July 10th date, they said they haven’t heard anything about that and whomever said that has more info than they do. Our AVP is pretty honest and straightforward. I believe them when they say late July or early Aug is their guess, but they didn’t have any official word from up high yet.

Those that are left will be spinning their wheels on a useless strategy. Make sure you have your spreadsheets and power point decks ready!!

"...fear that it’s prolonging the inevitable?" It would be this, I think it's called $h!t or get off the pot, yeah? It's causes undue extra stress in an already highly stressed environment. Perhaps the predicted outcome which was calculated by AT&T Big Data, was to create additional high stressors, and a sizable portion of the employee base will die of heart attacks. Thus, "natural attrition" will be achieved, and they don't have to add to their numbers on those who are laid off making them smell like roses.

So , you’re upset that there HAVEN’T been layoffs? Or is it the fear that it’s prolonging the inevitable?

And level 1 "management" don't really manage anything. That's just a loophole to keep some jobs away from being filled by union members by classifying them as "managemeng jobs," when they really should have been considered to be somewhat more technical craft jobs.

Friday, not Monday.

Supposedly levels 1-4 management to be affected. Level 5 and above already got their golden parachutes (2 years' severance!). Union layoffs supposedly have already occurred a couple of weeks ago, with no word of any current plans for more, but that doesn't exactly rule them out.
