Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Redundant

It sure feels terrible knowing my job I have so proudly worked hard for all these years may possibly be considered “redundant”. Isn’t that a good way to say thank you? Thanks Allstate for kicking us while we are down.

I agree. When I was first out of college I worked a job where the hours were 4 am till noon Sunday through Thursday holidays included and no breaks (No illegal in my state once you turn 18) I would work overtime by staying late or coming on my day off and once risked my safety to come in during a state of emergency to go to work. What happened at my first evaluation when I wanted to get a raise? A lay off. All of that showing up early, staying late, volunteering to come in on my days off, and coming during a snow storm (only employee to do so) didn't matter. Now I show a few minutes early and I am focused on my job when I need to be (I take my lunch but and maybe two bathroom breaks but that is it) and I maybe stay a few minutes late. I also make sure that I don't do someone else's job for them unless the supervisor tells me to. I am as a loyal to my employer as they are to me.

Not about “thank you.” This is why I limit loyalty to my employer. I’m as loyal as I have to be, but that’s the extent of it. Allstate (and other employers) bear no obligation and indeed are not motivated to show any form of loyalty to employees. We’re all essentially a line item. It’s not personal.
