Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

5g to save at&t

So we keep hearing about all this 5g launched in one city after another to “save” att.
Question is that all these antennas need to have a fiber backhaul to our network, soooo Who is placing all this fiber??
Is it contractors? C and E? Who is to maintain it too?
With all these bird holes on existing fiber here in texas going to need a lot of fiber techs

Don't worry. 5G will not save the company. It's only empty marketing words. No truth to it. We heard the same about U-verse DA's being ready all around decades ago. It wasn't. Not even a strand of cable near-by. 5G, too, shall pass.

Not to worry, the execs have got this covered. All this work will be outsourced to India and will be done remotely when the layoffs are finished.

I'm in SW and most of our new sites are CRAN not 5G and we hire contractors to place it and our splicers splice and terminate it.

Seems many don't realize that many areas of the country are out of AT&T wireline region.
Verizon is a big backhaul transport provider in the Northeast.

5G is not going to save anything when site builds are being defunded right and left

Buried fiber is placed by a contractor. Aerial or underground fiber is placed by AT&T. All splicing is done by At&T. The fiber for CRAN is dark fibers as far as wireline is concerned. A contractor places the CRAN equipment that an AT&T wireline employee designed. A contractor places the hub equipment at the mobility hub. AT&T mobility employee places the card at the mobility hub and turns up the node.

It is almost always a 3rd party.

In the SE, C&E places/splices the fiber. SSIM turns up/repairs the feeder circuit. Cable Repair will fix the fiber if it's damaged. Wireless Tech installs & maintains their equipment at the site/tower/node.

Mostly contractors, even cran sites are installed and turned up by contractors.

I don't know the specifics since I'm not in C&E but I sure as heck notice a ton of contractors in my neighborhood (mixed commercial/residential) placing "AT&T" fiber (as noted on the top of those white access tubes. Have never seen an AT&T employee doing it. Is that the same all over?
