My managers are apparently under the impression that Because they put Directv in their own organization that we are somehow safe. I still don’t understand why they think that but if anybody has any useful information for a legacy Directv tech that would be beneficial thank you

They need to stabilize pricing for DTV. The constant price increases that are like 7-13% annually need to be addressed. They may have lost a lot of customers, but price is the number one reason, not cord cutting millennials. The consensus in the tenured DYV customer base is that it now has AT&T’s stink on it, and so tech support and other customer service went from #1 to subpar. DTV an anchor? I think maybe the debt load is somewhat an anchor, but the structure of the debt pay down has been stable and followed the plan. The anchors in this company are all the VPs/AVPs and compensation disparity. We were told the company would be cutting at the top. All I saw was some retirements and moving around existing VPs, not getting rid of them. At least not to the degree I had assumed. No one is safe. I think we all get that. DTV and wireless are bringing in the revenue. They can’t dump it for a song in a fire sale. That would be stupid.
The smart thing to do would be to combine AT&T TV and DIRECTV into one service offering satellite and internet streaming. But that won't happen because Stinkhole is smarter than everyone else and he didn't think of it.
DTV, was in the early stages of engineering a STB that could do hybrid OTT or STB pulling from the same linear and PPV/OD limelight streams, it was one of the 1st projects disappeared after the merger, we had just had a project kick off call the week before the merger was announced and there were never any follow up meetings.
Any talk about DTV being sold is pure speculation, wishful thinking, and fantasy.
The Broadband & Video organization has just been given the orders to re-focus energy into support and acquisition of customers. The folks at the deathstar finally opened their eyes to see that DTV has 18 million paying customers. AT&T TV has about 300K and is barely growing because it's 100% dependent on internet service faster than DSL, which is unavailable in most of the country. And U-verse is on life support and is no longer taking new subs. Not to mention the fact that DIRECTV is the main AT&T service for bars, hotels, and other businesses.
Given that, just why would AT&T get rid of over 99% (not counting U-verse) of their current video customers?

But dumping 18 million in the hopes that 300K will grow? Fat chance. Not even T is that dysfunctional.
Having/being a part of Directv isn't either a positive or a negative. If you're on the block it doesn't matter which product or service you work with.
After being at T for 22 years, I can say with authority that nobody is "Safe".
"Oh our group is safe because we're high achievers/DTV/Finance/HR/etc" is a fallacy.
If you're not the CEO, then nothing is safe from layoff or reorgs or anything.
Everyone and every group and every department and Org is never 'safe'.
Just look at how many original DTV Senior managers did not get put back into DTV. They know something, and that something is not good.
T would like to sell or spin off DTV so you guys should be relatively safe. They don't want to make DTV any more understaffed or dysfunctional than they already have in order to attract a buyer.
Dtv is a huge weighty anchor on the USS ma bell. Sorry for the bluntness. I have no idea how dtv can't take heavy hits soon.
