I have worked for Allstate about 30 years.
We were always number 2 behind State Farm.
They gave us elaborate kick-offs, company picnics, holiday parties, good benefits, pension, vacation, sick days, decent pay. We hired Tom Wilson and Glen Shapiro.
They striped us of everything except our dignity.
Now we are number 4/5 in the insurance industry.
So you tell me where the problem lies?

What happened is the agency business model became outdated and companies like GEICO and progressive could sell policies for 10-20% cheaper. Read more about GEICOs culture.. they are very lean and don’t offer employees many perks. Ultimately customers will always choose a lower price and don’t care Which company treats employees better
Tom Wilson does not care about insurance company rank. He cares about consistent profits. He will not give up margins to gain market share. I agree, I have more pride than TW’s attitude towards margins vs company rank. Never mind the fact that Sears use to be the #1 retailer In America. Also let’s not bring up the fact Allstate was once owned by Sears. There is no relationship to the fact that Tom Wilson came through the ranks Sears before he came to Allstate and Allstate once being the #2 insurance company by earned premium. The Sears catalog was an overall bad idea. The catalog could have been a good spring board to the internet age, however retail irrelevance was more important. Does anyone know who got rid of the Sears catalog?
