Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

CTO Town Hall comments - surplus concerns

Fuetsch "I don't want to sugar coat things here... it's coming up and will be significant" "we will have some force reductions across the org but I will not get into specific numbers" "we'll have more on this in the coming weeks"

zero information, again. Another waste of an hour

Worrisome that the pundit artist Yigal Elbaz is amongst those retained while technical talent people like Kafka are let go.

Sorry but leadership at this and other large legacy publicly traded companies, it pathetic, These guys are full of weasel words, and never come out and tell you the truth in plain simple non corporate spin jargon.

They hide their announcements behind flowery corporate language, because their HR departments in consultation with legal told them how to best "break the news" but its weak and lame. Honestly the only time you hear these guys almost tell the truth is during earnings calls, cause the Wall St. analyst, don't play the bs. game, and expect straight answer. They still use flowery language but you have a better gauge of the sentiment where things are headed.

Leadership is free to act with no repercussions. They roll out endless time-wasting processes and spend endless amounts of money on them and the bottom line ends up being impacted. Why not just say "We don't have a clue how to run this company and are throwing darts at a board to make the decisions."

"Other companies don't operate like this. Weak leadership at the top, nobody's home in HR, and your Mgmt chain is afraid of making waves and sticking out, lest they be selected next.

Pathetic all the way around."

Poster sez: "if there was significant work occurring there would be no need to cut significant resources but people have been sitting around doing nothing for 5 years"

Of course. It's not the executives fault that projects were poorly conceived and failed. Or that there was no money for them. It is the fault of the worker bees. What kind of fool would believe that the worker bees ran the company into the ground. Was worker bees that borrowed 180Gigadollars to give Randall the Vandal his dream? YEAH, that must be it. Where do we find people like this? Boot licking clowns.

Why do you think these people are in the roles they are in? They have no conscious when it comes to people, lives or careers. They will fire 15,000 of us and never lose a bit of sleep. Except maybe the hangover from the celebration party with Stinky.

This has been going on got 10+ years– same story "more information to come". That never has happened. Nobody ever knows - even your Manager doesn't know until the last possible moment. Then it's a forbidden topic - you're told not to discuss it with other, or you might 'impact morale' on the rest of the team/dept.

Other companies don't operate like this. Weak leadership at the top, nobody's home in HR, and your Mgmt chain is afraid of making waves and sticking out, lest they be selected next.

Pathetic all the way around.

We are screwed under this leadership!! Cant even execute a layoff in a proper manner. They want to ruin everybody's morale and then destroy some more!! They want to give life time achievement award to Hank Kafka but at the same time lay him off. Every higher up behaves as if i am up here, screw you peasants. They are running this to ground. No matter whether you survive or not....its time to update your resumes and update your LinkedIn.
