With each round of layoff announcements, it just seems like a death sentence waiting to happen.

But instead of having a date for your execution, you are having constant meetings to discuss the prison food and cell conditions.

They tell you that you may or may not be executed this round, but you are in a pool of prisoners that may or may not be affected by this round of executions.

They will have multiple meetings to discuss the executions, but they end up patting themselves on the back for doing such a great job with the prison entrees and how soft the mattresses are.

I know the analogy is not quite the same, but that's how I've been feeling for many years now. Round after round, layoff notification after notification. I am fault for not trying to get out of the situation, as many have mentioned the competitive pay and benefits are what keeps me sticking around.

Until I am tied to that electric chair, I am going to fill up on the entrees and sleep on those soft mattresses. Come share the food and rest my friends, our day is coming regardless of what the prison ward says.

Lost mine after 24 years in 2019. I really thought it would devastate me.....I ain't missing it at all, since I been gone.....

I used to fret and worry every round (25 years). I don't anymore. It's going to happen when it happens, and there's not much I can do about it, other than control the controllable. That's my personal finance situation (stay debt free, maintain an emergency fund), maintain/ update my resume and LinkedIn profile and network. Yes, I could just leave... but with a very good salary and lots of PTO, I'll wait to be asked to, thanks very much. That'll happen when it happens.

You gotta love the people who hate on people who’ve got 20 years in- those folks probably started when they were 18, and are only 38 or 40 years old. What’s wrong with wanting a career and staying with a company that has paid you well? Guess what? You’ll be there some day- and you’ll have people like yourself calling you old and laughing as you lose your job with a family to support. Those people make me sick. And I don’t have 20 years in- but I respect anyone that works hard that does.

Don’t listen to these douchebags saying man up! Obviously if you are at the bottom we should be nervous sorry but not all titles have job protection so I say anyone that has job protection sit the f— down this doesn’t concern you! I myself also feel the stress so I can relate we just gotta keep putting apps in and maybe come across something better? Either way we can’t worry about what we can’t control I know it’s easier said than done...

Man up? What a stupid comment. This affects everyone differently. Some have families, multiple kids either young or in college. All situations are going to have a different dynamic. Yes, the thing to do if it happens to you is to get to work finding a new job, but don’t minimize the impact to entire families and the pressure one has on their shoulders when they have other mouths to feed and bills to pay.

Long story short, you may not care about your situation, but others do, so try not to be such an insensitive pr1ck.

Sorry, but you are the problem. Hope you have a lot of savings. You’re outta here. Don’t bother with the age discrimination. Avg employee age is 55 at ATT. Avg mgmt is 65.
