Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

One reason for delay in layoffs..

VP slots have been recently filled and ranking completed. T knows that they are going to get sued for discrimination when layoffs happen. They are going through review based on race/s-x/age (in that order) in an attempt to mitigate their liability due to perceived bias. In order to survive, you don't just have to be better than average overall - you have to be better than average within your employment class. Minorities and females will have it easier since the company will more than likely not target many of them since they are a legally protected class. I know I will get skewered for this but it is just a fact.

Not sure if this is factual. An older white lesbian was laid off in my area. According to this, she should have kept her job. She was 7 years away from retirement.

upcoming sample question: avp has 9 directors reporting to her. 2 are women (color not relevant), 1 is black male, 6 are white males (1 of whom self-identified as g– and is active in 1 or more g– org's at att and has badges and same-s-x marriage certificate/insurance dependent to prove it).

avp told needs to cut 3 directors. goodbye 3 straight white males. you're too entitled anyway in life, and you're simply not worth protecting.

place your bets now.

ratings and age? more or less totally useless in above situation. doubt this? then you haven't been reading any att internal news/initiatives for years now.

for extra credit- which 1 white straight male will keep his job? answer- the 1 who ticks off the female avp the very least overall.

In my 30 years all layoffs were based on job performance. There is a reason in every group, there has to be some top and bottom performers. I got put on bottom my last year.

Why is this Black v White issue when it was Randall Stephenson, John Stankey and John Stephens that put the company in such a dire position!! Each of them will walk away with tens of millions with guaranteed free healthcare for their families for life. Meanwhile the everyday workers are fighting amongst themselves and pointing fingers at each other!

" Folks with 20+ years extremely valuable , the knowledge acquired thru experience not degree!"

First, I have been here 26 years. I earned my degree after my military service while working here, and had the company pay for it. Some folks that have been here a long time seem to actually think it's somehow bad to have a College degree. As the degree does not itself make an employee "valuable" to their organization, nor does the fact that an employee has been here for 20+ years do so. In fact, I'd argue many times it's quite the opposite. Many employees that have been around that long tend to not give 2 flips anymore, especially in the bargained for environment where the cloak of seniority protects the inept and dimwitted.

BS, OP.

Yes, minorities and women are protected classes, as are all those who are age 40 and older—protected against discrimination, that is, not protected against lay-offs that are conducted in a non-discriminatory manner.

White males are the dominant (in every sense) class of workers, including by sheer number, so, yes, more white males should be laid-off.

1) race will definitely be a factor. Ex: if two people with similar salaries and sales numbers are up the minority will keep job.
2) female will keep job over male using same criteria
3) white males will be the bulk of layoffs especially those over 50 who aren’t extremely high producers.
Take a look at 2nd-4th layer of management and you will see almost no white males.
4) current salary based on performance will be a factor. Ex: if business rep one sells $6k in NSR and has a base of $65k plus $35k at risk and business rep 2 sells $6k in NSR and has a $55k base and $35k at risk you can almost bet rep 1 walks.

I heard AT&T Labs is working to clone you wirh Chiw's face.
what I still don't have a perfect grasp of the risks involved in the process, and third, there's also the nonbinding human cloning ban to worry about. The closest we have to human clones today at AT&T Is HIGH IQ stankey monozygotic , his dentical twins Randal, but due to an accident he was desfigured resulting in his current look.

More blacks than whites work at AT&T. Whites are the minority.

Is there a delay? Seems like July 10th has been the consistent date and we still have a few weeks until then.

Hey dumba$$...age is a protected class as well. As is religion, s-x(including pregnancy, s-xual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, disability and genetic information (including family medical history).

I am not looking to give the corporation any credit, but to suggest they are combing through all of that to decide who to lay off and who not to layoff is ridiculous. I do believe they may be somewhat sensitive to age, as they have to be due to the unusually high median age of T employees. ..and the fact they have garnered some unwanted attention in that area before. I think they may try to purposefully keep that number somewhat in check at a set percentage of an overall number of the targeted.

But we r more expensive to keep, usually r paid more, have pension, higher healthcare costs, regardless of good health, expertise, value etc.
The - new degree college hires r cheaper and easier to mold - they will drink the koolaid. Unfortunate but true . ATT must lower debt due to pressure of investment firms on behalf of stockholders- they want to get rich while unemployment rises- just reality not personal.
Executives and VPs r looking out for themselves - as we all should do!

LOL. Thinking about the age discrimination. The problem is...75% of ATT employees are 50 and older. There’s no ground to stand-on there. Wish I was a fly on the wall, on these lay-off discussions. 60+ yr old mgmt folks, looking at a workforce that averages 50+ in age. All the while, never looking at themselves in the mirror

On the bargained side there will be no discrimination. Appendix E will be slaughtered Especially the Dtv techs. 4700 jobs are gone and the question is including the buyouts? There is a lot of work so they can’t fire all. In management it’s open season. Prayers for all affected
