Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

All Quiet on the Western Front

crickets

Has everything gone quiet in your org? Seems like the flurry of emails have become a trickle, and the majority of emails are spam messages from INNOVATION PIPELINE, OPPORTUNITY MARKETPLACE, and BRAND SHOP.

There is no innovation in the company. There are no opportunities. Who the hell wants to support a company through branding when our future is uncertain?

They made sure to announce so they could comply with WARN order and the DUNN act. Now you have to play the waiting game.

Agree with the posters here, there just drafting up the numbers and how to sequence the separations to smooth out the transitions and workflow.

While there may be little relevant work going on , lots of on going projects that they're contractually obligated to must go on.. so they're carefully juggli g the remaining personal.

They know there are few jobs out there so they can do whatever they want. They do t understand that so many employees just really dont care and just keep collecting a paycheck waiting for their call. As a manager it is difficult motivate and manage numb. Non union folks never know what is in the corporate trick bag and are very aware hard work buys nothing.

Don't kid yourself. This is 100% calculated at the top. By waiting this long to give any notice after the first announcement the suits are trying to lull everyone into a sense of calm and relief. But it's only temporary.

The reason is simple. sending out notices quickly after that first announcement would have raised a huge stink, and would have caught the attention of the wide-spread press. But making that announcement and then moving slowly – a few cuts here, some VPs gone there – over four or five weeks means that each round doesn't seem quite as bad as it is.

Think about it ... hearing about 4,000 layoffs in one month is horrible. Hearing about 20,000 in a month is disastrous. Also, learning about layoffs in group A means the people in groups B-D start thinking maybe they're safe.

My guess is the next genuine cut will come on 6/30, followed by another on 7/14, and then another on 7/31. But none of them really massive. Keeping it to 3,000 - 5,000 at a time and restricted to certain business units just makes it a little easier to handle.

Calm before the storm. They hit craft....supposedly hit the top but it appears to have been a shuffle of musical chairs. Now expect L1 and L2’s to get nailed bad. My guess is 7-10 there will be a lot of people given 14 days to pack their bags.
