A basketball coach can teach individual players on techniques and practice repetition, and teach how 5 players can work as a team in offense and defense.

Six Sigma coaches (consultants) and these so call managers have no in depth experience or skills set. It is marketed solution looking for the right problem, and in reality, there are no right problems. What happens is half baked, PowerPoint driven, smoke and mirror, ugly mess and no one wants to support. Claim credit, run off to tackle the next big problem. Don't take my word for, google it yourself.

Example: WiFi Assessment, True Testing, AB Jack, registration, etc.... spreadsheet (Top Gun) warriors try to justify these all day long and are constantly adding to compliance/regulation. Most is useless and most of my Customers don’t care. It’s taking longer and longer for an install and customers are getting very irritated. Top Gun is getting to be a more bloated bureaucracy all the time, they are cranking out more task for frontline techs to justify their jobs. Frontline Managers are using it as a discipline tool because now we have to meet all of these metrics from office managers. Don’t believe them when they say it only takes seconds or minutes to do this additional work. They don’t account for making extra trips back and forth to the truck, rain, having to explain to customers, etc...

  1. True test - Monthly repeats is the telling number for how a tech is doing and if they need some additional training. True test is useless half the time it says there is a bridge tap when there isn’t and vs versa, I’ve seen it over and over. There should be an exclusion for good techs that have low repeat numbers, like testing systems in past.

I could go on about the other task that are mostly useless but I won’t bore you. It’s cathartic to write about a lot of things that are wrong these days. Management used to listen and work with the experts in the field but now it’s all top down micromanaging with constant threats of discipline. A lot of my friends with decades of experience are taking the package and leaving this train wreck. They are real assets to the company and would continue working if not for the toxic environment that it’s become. They can’t take it anymore and are depressed with what has become of a once great company and career. They don’t even wear their uniforms outside the job anymore, it’s embarrassing.

Of course the job justifiers will continue working and adding more task but ask yourself, how much value do they bring to the table vs a frontline employee? The COVID has shown who the real essential workers are in our society. We need a rebalance not just in this example but America as a whole.

The young guys laughed when I told them how stellar my numbers are! But seen I’ve seen all the games AND it always comes back to numbers!!! Don’t get me wrong....I don’t work hard, just have a sharp pencil!

I have found a lot of calculation errors on msoc/snowglobe.
I got so tired of doing that ; I finally gave up. Those programmers should be fired, making changes and not testing them sufficiently before putting them into production. So it is doubtful how accurate it is. It is a six sigma problem, and others have posted links on how many companies were ruined by six sigma. It might have been suitable for UPS workers sorting boxes on a conveyor, but not for unknowns such as troubleshooting. If anyone ever finds out anything from it, it will get covered up, because it makes people look bad or useless. I am tired of coding time charged to me because of other persons incompetence or understaffing. It seems that they should get the blame. I just serve to take the blame for others higher up who have never done my job and don't have a clue how to.
If they should find out what really causes inefficiencies, it will be ignored or not even considered. It makes people look bad, and we can't have that with all these layoffs pending. It might be you who gets layed off for uncovering that problem that made things look bad.

To date non of the data they collected from this stupid micromanagement has amounted to any positive outcome for the company, zilch! It’s in place for whoever is managing it to have a pet project and keep getting paid for another useless management position, the numbers are manipulated and massaged by techs and their managers all day long to keep whoever is above them off their back and in the end the result is on paper management are fooled into believing all is well out in the real world so nothing ever gets fixed, replaced or upgraded. It’s how the id–ts atop decide on things like bonded pair, CSI everything, not upgrading to FTTP and on and on. All the terrible ideas and decisions that have come and gone and fixed nothing or made things worse are a direct result of desk Jockies believing the fake data uploaded by techs and their managers.

Post ID: @1spi+15CIDNFn Hard as you try, you won't find enough "fraud" to justify your job. In the future, please do not harass me when leave with my goods from Walmart.

With this old decaying plant a cable code plus dwa is justified everytime. Another job justifier looking at data. More useless micromanaging, how efficient is it to have all these people watching other people? Sounds like a place that used to be called East Germany and the Iron Curtain, how did that work out. Wish the company would focus back in the people who pay the bills and our wages, the customers!

Company records! Dude, pass some of that smoke this way. We were all taught to lie, cheat, steal... but DONT get caught :)
I’ve learned more about code manipulation from management than anyone in craft.
Doesn’t really matter now, the best parts of this cruise are long over. Here’s my floaty, good luck company man.

The “skill or will” question should be dead. Nothing new to learn about POTS and Uverse. No more new hires to coddle.

At this stage of the game it’s all “will”.

“Walter, with 27 years service it’s not that you can’t work hard enough, you just won’t “

Next will be the tech who uses that trusty cable code on every damn job. As an employee who’s job it is to dig into the data we already know who you are. Falsifying company records will get you fired..

Let me know the rules and I'll play the game. Same as the last 20 years. AT&T "leadership", you keep sinking money into the most outdated management philosophies you can possibly find, no surprise there. AT&T with this "leadership" has not had an original idea in decades.

They started that numbers thing with MSOC a long time ago. Managers are so overloaded with work right now, they aren’t going to have time to coach along with all of the other bs they have to do.

My question is, who will be doing the coaching? The level 1? Who lost touch with whats out there now? The Lv 2 who shows up once a month and still believes we are installing street phones? Or the level 3 that only brings coffee to the lv 4?

Yes, heard true test for all services POTs, DSL, included, along with the 1000ft PFP trouble report notification to Tech within that zone to verify. Basically T wanted you gone , you didn’t leave, welcome back to HELL.

They haven’t coached in years... none of my supervisors have showed me how to do something better, more efficient, faster. It’s only been meetings if you haven’t made your numbers your not on a step.

The majority of the “numbers” or “metrics” are flawed and can be fought.
