Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Hon helping employees navigate Unemployment?

So has any site leaders or HR communicated to employees on how to navigate unemployment in their state?
They communicated furloughs pretty quick and thoroughly.
If any site did let us know.

Everyone should apply for unemployment benefits the first day of furlough. Most states are waiving the one week wait. This is your chance to finally collect when Honeyhell does their usual biweekly furloughing game.

@3vxy - you’re a Fellow, and you don’t know how to access your state’s unemployment website and figure out how to apply? No wonder why Honeywell business is flagging, if this is representative of an “expert “.

So how DO you file for unemployment?

I'm a Honeywell Fellow and have never had to do this. It's scary!

In Arizona, Governor Ducey waived the one week waiting period; https://azgovernor.gov/governor/news/2020/03/governor-ducey-expands-access-unemployment-insurance-and-extends-income-tax
You can apply as soon as your last day of work before your furlough; https://des.az.gov/services/employment/unemployment-individual/apply-ui-benefits
Honeywell doesn't want you to apply, and that's the main reason I did. I should get $240/wk from the state and $600/wk from the feds. Everyone in the USA should apply, the worst that can happen is your state rejects the claim. Hopefully, the feds will still pay you.

That HR person was misinformed or lied. The 2 weeks do not have to be consecutive. You should file for unemployment on the first day of your furlough.

On the HR call they flat out said to a question about if employees could file for unemployment "this is why we don't do it for 2 full weeks"

Hang on Folks, I've been through several furloughs during my tenure at Honeywell. Perhaps this person is seeking particular information that is needed when filing for unemployment compensation. The following information is directly from the ODJFS website. Perhaps this kind of information is what this person is seeking. I'm not sure what happens in other states, but this was helpful to me (in Ohio)

http://jfs.ohio.gov/ouio/ucben/MassLayoffProcedures.stm

  • After Reporting a Mass Layoff

After an employer registers a mass layoff with ODJFS, an information sheet will be faxed or e-mailed to the employer for distribution to affected workers.

This instruction sheet provides information to employees including:

A custom MASS LAYOFF NUMBER (required for quick and accurate processing)
Information about registering online (http://unemployment.ohio.gov) or by phone (1-877-644-6562) within the first week of separation, and
Information about filing at the above website to claim their weeks of unemployment

It is not up to HR. They don't work for the government. Do you ask finance for help with your checking account? Or legal for your speeding ticket? Do you want a nanny?

You have the internet and Google, so go find out for yourself. You could have done this in the time it took to write your post here. Be responsible for yourself.

In florida unemployment kicks in on the second week of no pay in a calendar year. Does not have to be contiguous. File immediately.

It’s unemployment people, you should not need HR to help navigate...

New rules in place for COVID, many states loosening rules to make it easier to qualify if furloughed...

They don’t want people to go on unemployment. If I recall correctly, unemployment kicks in after you’ve been unemployed for 2 weeks. You can’t file for past weeks unemployed.

If Honeywell pulls another 2 weeks of furlough, Then it’ll be another 2 weeks you don’t get unemployment if you didn’t log the first 2.

They can rinse and repeat this and save by not having to pay your unemployment.
