Welcome to PSR mentality. If you can make flat switching work there will be cuts. If you can’t make it work there will be massive cuts. Where’s my motivation?
Sooo.....let’s get this straight......yard closes down - devastating amount of job losses. Yard stays open - devastating amount of job losses. Got it.
Started flat switching last night. If it doesn’t work out they are closing the yard. If they can make it work they are going to cut deep on transportation side and mechanical at the yard. The millions they dumped into this yard the last 6 years is about to be flushed down the drain. Wish I had money like that to burn.
What happened to the last general Forman?
Already idled half the yard..
Anyone with any experience with Class 1 Railroads will realize Humps are the thing of the past. Hump no longer exist! It's just not feasible!
Unfortunately it does sound like the crown jewel of ns has lost its luster. May not even be flat switching there. It may be done at certain smaller terminals elsewhere on the division. There will be significant manpower losses in any case. May only be a location that keeps a handful of jobs to service the industries and otherwise serve only as a block and crew swap point. Just goes to show that no amount of investment makes something any more important in the end.
Won’t affect me if they shut the hump down I’ll be looking for a job
Looks like you will be getting a new General forman,be there Sat.
