The Union should advise the company for the safety of its members and their employees no work will be done past the NID for residential customers.
If a technician is on a repair ticket (pots or VV) and the trouble is inside the home the technician will not enter for the safety reasons. Instead the technician will wire up IW or jumper wire with a RJ11 connector outside the house from the nid to the nearest window or door and have customer move their phone or modem temporarily to restore service. If the company still insists on full installs then same policy applies. Technician will run a temporary line to nearest point of entrance and manually configure modem credentials from the cab of their trucks and leave equipment outside their front door. As for businesses same rules apply past dmarc. Technicians can run a temp IW or jumper to the safest and closest location to where customers can move their equipment, phone or modem temporarily to restore service. This will also minimize customer contact and the time spent on location.
It’s not a perfect policy but it is a lot safer than the current policy which is a judgement call on you as the technician (if you feel it’s unsafe to enter) then no access. Most people can be carrying the virus and not even be showing any systems and you can get it and be bringing it home to your family.
