Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Belk needs to close for two weeks and pay all employees the hours they were scheduled. Period. The health and safety of workers and customers is not worth the risk. People who shop at Belk are old and so are many associates, they are at great risk of getting sick with the Coronavirus. If Belk stays open it is TERRIBLE P.R. For the company.

Belk tried to say that all employees were compensated for hours worked during the first two weeks of the virus quarantine to make themselves look good in a press release, when in fact they were only compensated for 23 hours full time and 3 hours part time, they then said you would have to use PTO to make up the rest, this is shameful, and it’s all because of Lisa Harper the CEO, she is driving this company into the ground, most employees are going to quit after the furlough and after they get their unemployment and stimulus checks.

My schedule for this week was originally 32 hours. Then it suddenly changed to 23. I received a phone call from my stores HR and was told that I could use a PTO day to get me to 29 hours. I go into work on the 17th and you could tell something was going on and yet we weren’t told anything. Later in the day I found out that the store was closing, at 6:00pm, for two weeks. This didn’t come from Management, it came from a coworker that had received an email because she is a counter manager. When I left I was told to not come to work the next day and that someone would be calling me. I have yet to receive a call which is typical. Later I decided to check my schedule and saw where it had been wiped clean except for the 6.5 hours that I had worked on Tuesday, the 17th. So, will I be paid for the original hours, the hours that it was slashed to or the 6.5? Who the heck knows. Something shady is going on, I feel, and Belk will just try to screw us, yet again. Yes, they should pay us but they won’t. They will try and get away with the least amount possible. I might add that the sales associates are the ones on the front lines working ourselves to death to make them the money while the managers, who are on salary, do nothing and yet they will get their full paychecks.
