Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

The perfect analogy

My wife received her 60 day notice from HCL last Friday. Her entire team has been spending the last 3 months training their replacements from India and will be expected to continue training them up to the date of their layoff. In a moment of perfect clarity she compared what Xerox is doing to a family that is losing their house being forced to help the new family move in. Needs to be a law against this.

Please look at the Trade Act. https://www.doleta.gov/tradeact/ . This can help in these cases. Check out the search feature for Xerox. ;)

Those that are upset about training their replacements are in a real bind. I know they don’t have to stay but in some cases there are severances well over fifty thousand in some countries so what the he— do you think they’re going to do?
They will train them but it IS humiliating.
These people just wanted the comfort of having a job and even though they will be compensated well their job is forever over of what they knew and have done for maybe 30 years or more and ONLY because someone that walked in from the street basically and sold them only to be replaced by someone else for cheap
Surely anyone must understand the emotions that would be to live through.
These choices are not made. They are forced with a death in the end
Like digging your own emotional grave for money, then get the bullet.
It’s cruel and how it’s legal is astonishing.
The good old days of a picket line and community sticking together like the power of a good union is sorely missed
And I never thought I would say that in my life.

It's so true but in the end the company is going down the sh–ter, customers are leaving, I don't care if people think what Xerox is doing is legal or not but it's downright a huge slap n the face to the dedicated emloyees who made their areas successful, it's already a disaster in most cores that have transitioned the work

Holding your severance payment to force you to train your replacement is wrong, its a type of extortion where Xerox holds money that rightly belongs to you until you do as they ask. A few years ago those that were let go found out on their last day and got 1 weeks severance per year of service without having to train their replacement. No worker should be forced to train their replacement, it's humiliating and degrading.

Warning to anyone moved to HCL or still at Xerox: Spend your time and energy on leaving. It is a numbers game, yours will be up at some point. Sad to hear from those going through this, but the rest should take lesson and make a move. Up and onward!

Ironic when @mth+13kvcnlo has all these down votes and yet is correct. I left very early in the HCL game and have been trying to get a few people opportunities but some just aren't interested. Maybe what I'm offering isn't the best fit but HCL gas been offering benefits and severance/bonuses while people have had a year to look for a job. Nobody is saying the situation is ideal but could have been a million times worse.

Yea, I was in this situation. Not at Xerox. If the choice is to train and walk away with a hefty severance or walk away with nothing, which would you choose? This does not mean that when I leave my replacement will know everything I know, cause that will never happen. Much as the first responder was down voted, s/he is correct. Why should there be a law? The only thing keeping you is a potential severance. So they pay you, you train. Simple. I didn't like it either, but I wasn't walking away with nothing. On the other hand, if there is no severance, why would you stay and train? You should put that energy into job hunting. Best wishes.

Hey mth+13kvnlo how about a law against trolls who find personal pleasure in making snotty comments on blogs in an attempt to rub salt in people's wounds.

You sound like a real life of the party at least that's probably how you view youself.

They aren't being forced to train replacements. The only reason she would stay on is I assume there is some sort of severance package offered if she does. She could look for another job now and then quit.

What sort of law do you think should be put in place?
