Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

This is why this is happening

The purpose of the layoffs is to reduce the higher paying jobs and those close to retirement in order to hire millennials at less then half the salary. But as we all know, you get what you pay for. A lot of amazing talent is sent packing. Any similar company will be wise to scoop them up! Stay tuned.

Perfectly stated, @1vnq+13ecrM7D. I couldn't agree with you more.

wish we had analysis from a “diversity & inclusion” perspective on who stays v. leaves. only the stats can tell us if racial selection bias happened in the layoffs.

I do believe that loyalty along with hours of dedication to the company was not even considered. Being a top performer for years to bring in staff at half the pay is detrimental to the organization. If the company had looked harder they would have be equal in laying off the Managers and Directors who work from home 100% of the time and/or have zero direct reports. In addition, perhaps the company should have looked at the poor performance in specific divisions and started at the top with "Senior" Leadership since the concept is to lead by example. Obviously there is poor performance because senior leaders don't always bring what is required to run a robust team. It's not always what you know but who you know.

The interesting part of this.... is that many of the people who were laid off advocated change but were slapped down by the management who are staying. Good luck to all of the laid-off managers. It is not easy to get another job when you worked for HCSC- a dinosaur.

It’s happening b/c the company is extremely top heavy. It’s probably not true for all areas but in ours they’ve got it right. Does a group of 6-10 people really need 2-3 mangers and a director? Even if they are nice people....
at the same time I hope the rumors on this forum are not true and there won’t be another round. B/c that will affect the customers and day to day work load. And surely the severance won’t be as generous as for the dir level. Just imho...

There were a ton of antiquated, poorly performing legacy systems that needed a complete overhaul. This might clear the path for some of that to happen but this was certainly handled poorly. HCSC lags behind most other national and large regional insurers in many areas.

True! Unfortunately, tenure and knowledge of their myriad of systems, products, procedures, and departments is not being valued. Very myopic of leadership to cast this knowledge aside for short term gains. It will hurt them immediately but help the budget and bonuses for the new executives. The executive pay is the main priority here, not what is best for the organization.

We will wait for this latest upper management failure to run its course and get a new crew of executives soon and start the whole process over. It is the HCSC way recently.
