Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Enjoying the benefits????

Did I really just hear them say they're "already enjoying the benefits" from the employee cuts they've already made on the conference call this morning?

let’s be honest. the rr has less opportunities for new business and the competition is years ahead of us both in equipment and labor. the volume in the next foreseeable 10 years will be low and every freight ton will go to the lowest bidder. just like the trucking industry. ns was to slow to realize AC was the way and psr was the mechanism. this thing is just getting started for ns. we might even see our class one status change .

Jim Squires may reach his 60% operating ratio goal, but I don’t care what anyone says it’s just not sustainable they way it is being done. It has been seen with other CEOs in the past, the company is going to be in shambles in a few years. You will probably see Squires resign but the sad thing is the board will give him a $50+ million severance.

Norfolk Southern is enjoying these cuts to produce a false operating ratio to satisfy share holders . It’s a shell game fueled by false truths . Stock buy backs , firing employees , closing down facilities, shuttering locomotives , selling off rolling stock ect . This is not a result of PSR but is a result of corporate greed . Taxpayers have bailed out banks, automotive industries...This is our nation’s infrastructure its to important to fail ... Conrail ?

Well seeing that Mack Trucks is owned by Volvo Group and Volvo in Dublin just laid off 700 people, they’ll probably fill those 250 jobs out of the 700 that they cut seeing as they already have the experience.

Mack Trucks is opening a $13 million Roanoke County assembly facility on Technology Drive. The new facility plans to hire 250 employees.

That can't be right... Because they've already laid off 135 and he said there's still more to come..

Proof of what we already knew. We are a liability not an asset.

I really like how they wouldnt give a number that they are going to cut. They are playing it by ear. Just what employees love to hear.
