Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How many people work at Oracle?

What's your guess on how many employees the company will have before the end of the year? How about the overall headcount? And headcount at Redwood City?

Probably close to the same it was at the end of last year, and the year before that, and so forth.

The track record of these yearly "blood bath" layoff predictions have been utterly dismal. Sure, if you're in a division that has shrinking sales, there is a risk of layoffs; but that is true at any firm.

Here is the exact number as reported by the company to the SEC via the 10K form - this was back in June 2019.

  • As of May 31, 2019, we employed approximately 136,000 full-time employees, including approximately 39,000 in sales and marketing, approximately 18,000 in our cloud services and license support operations, approximately 4,000 in hardware, approximately 24,000 in services, approximately 38,000 in research and development and approximately 13,000 in general and administrative positions.
  • Of these employees, approximately 48,000 were employed in the U.S. and approximately 88,000 were employed internationally.

None of our employees in the U.S. is represented by a labor union; however, in certain foreign subsidiaries, labor unions or workers’ councils represent some of our employees.

I think SC will try to right-size the company, but those below her will put up resistance. The only thing that is important to management is the headcount they have below them on the org chart. They won't give in easily.

I will guess 120,000. SC will want 100,000, but she won't be able to get it. I also predict she will resign as CEO by Dec 2020.
