Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

IT questions

1) Cary, NC was supposed to be 0 virtual but now ads are up suggesting otherwise. Change in the rules?
2) BLDG 300 data centers still churning along, and we are almost to Q2. Another change in strategy that no one communicated?
3) Naresh and directs not moving to Cary. Different rules apply to them?

IT leaders are “better than you”, thus don’t have to move. They just have to hire a Cary based person to watch over those who will be offshored, new hires or longtime employees. Then, when everything starts to crumble they can go back into retirement until Mr. Activist again needs their “services”.

If there's a good thing about Cary it's that it's located close to a lot of other tech companies, and is sort of trying to be the silicon valley of the East coast (big generalization, but I think it's fair to say). So if the Xerox gig doesn't work out there may be other opportunities nearby.

Is there additional insight you can share on Cary?

How Is the outlook for a new hire?

So IT leadership is not moving to Cary? Was this a recent change to be more flexible? I'm a potential new hire but am cautious in relocating - though it seems there maybe some options.

I am starting to see IT jobs posted in ... Rochester NY.

If this doesn’t indicate something seriously broken with the IT staffing strategy then I don’t know what does.

Imagine the conversation: Jack: “I moved to Cary to keep my IT job”. Jill: “That’s strange, I just got an IT job in Rochester. Sorry you had to uproot your life”. Jack, “I hope they don’t re-locate IT again the way HP has historically done to get people to resign”

Referring to item 1: “no virtual” was intended to limit those applying for their own now advertised jobs. Naresh has hired fellows who were not aware of this and who also are now recognizing the reality of Cary candidate skills, interest, and salary expectations. So virtual is now allowed at Cary for many positions unless you are a former Xerox employee.

I cover XRX as an analyst and can attest that not everyone on Wall Street has been hoodwinked. Many just waiting for a short term profit before getting out. No true believers in XRX other than as a short position or limited timeframe mediocre dividend to fit the market cap category for a particular fund objective. No one sees a long term viable company.

The situation strongly exemplifies that C-Suite is making these decisions with absolutely NO reasonable understanding that they can be executed. Their incompetence is appalling and is embarrassingly apparent to employees, service providers, customers, government agencies and lets not forget Wall St.

It would take a massive effort to move everything from the mainframe to something newer like SAP or Oracle, or to the cloud. The mainframe apps have been in place for 25 to 30 years and after all the layoffs and IT vendor changes there are no resources left that understand how they work or any documentation on them (that isn't out of date). I would be surprised if it could be done in 12 months end to end. 6 months was always a pipe dream.

2) have heard that 300 is staying as is. no more move to the cloud. falls along the lines of the apparent decision to put little to no effort into existing applications. Once Xerox takes over HP they can just use all of the HP apps.

3) Madan moved there but seems to be the only one so far. Heard Tino moved to Florida

All seems about par for the current management - make a decision and change it once you figure out that you made a poor decision - there was no way that 300 could be shut down in 6 months or the other failed project, shut down the main frame in 6 months.
