Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

So little strategic thinking behind layoffs at Oracle every single time

And I'm positive this time will be no different. Some of the critical positions are always cut, some of the best employees shown the door. Nobody actually sits down to think about what that will mean for the company in the long run. And then everybody is shocked when our results keep getting worse.

If only there was a way to see it coming...

Weak management caused this current round of layoffs, poor accounts given to teams and then fake results celebrated. At VP level where the cut will start he only believed what he wanted to from weak managers/directors not qualified for the role. Typical case of "Group Think" in an organization and what happens when a group (VP and directors) rule by force and not consensus.

The wrong people get laid off because the people making the decisions are corrupt. They keep their buddies with them and ax better employees that argue with them. Some of the best and most honest employees are the ones laid off.

it's no a strategic failing; it's an accountants way of patching up a sinking ship before the Q3 and 4 torpedoes hit...

It is not about strategy, it is about keeping shareholders happy. In the absence of growth, cost control is key. MBA 101 to “fool” the market. Every analyst knows this is BS but as Oracle is paying $0.91 on the share in dividends, the market doesn’t care and is happy to play for the time being.

As Oracle is not recording organic growth. It hasn’t addressed it has a massively flabby beer gut of useless and ineffectual VPs (who all have RSUs) that are stifling true growth.

The net result is it generally starts to thins headcount just after Q2.

This is inevitable in most companies trajectory. How to spot / predict this should be a required skill in job hunting.

You are so right, layoffs are a pure spreadsheet driven numbers game regardless of the needs of the business, good and needed people get cut just making things more difficult for those that remain and lowering morale we really do need a strategic rethink and reorg to actually improve our sales capablity not just cut the bottom line..sigh!!
