Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

At least it's not us for once

The Irish Times reports that it learned from workers at Oracle’s Dublin offices that the tech giant will eliminate up to 1,300 positions in Ireland, Holland and Spain. Oracle has been restructuring its workforce dramatically over the last year as it shifts focus to its cloud business.

Weak management caused this current round of layoffs, poor accounts given to teams and then fake results celebrated. At VP level where the cut will start he only believed what he wanted to from weak managers/directors not qualified for the role. Typical case of "Group Think" in an organization and what happens when a group (VP and directors) rule by force and not consensus.

Who is "us"? Layoffs have been happening world-wide since this all started.

Oracle Digital in Dublin, Amsterdam and Malaga have largely been spared from RIFs quite a bit in the past years. Their management showed great excellence in brown-nosing up to now, and managed to paint a "too rosy" picture, by surfing on a lot of the efforts of their country/field colleagues.
Many OD / Oracle Digital sales folks/mgrs jump from one job/group to another (apps-to-tech-to-systems-to-GBU-to-tech-to-anothercountry-to ...-> you get the picture) and in that way spice up their CV and survive in the Oracle blob...
This may sound harsh, but it's about time that:

  • OD also started suffering from some of the reorgs that the country/field organisations have felt over the past years.
  • the OD bubble gets popped, since it was originally created to sell cloud, which OD never succeeded in doing either.

shifts focus to cloud biz is laughable. at this point in their DOA roll out, oracle needs 10-15 college interns to manage the portfolio.
