This was the rumor that I heard from management in early January. After this Last buyout (EISSP) was offered in Las Vegas it would be the last one, then layoffs would commence. It appears not to be a rumor anymore. The company will probably go back 12-14 years in seniority across the board. Sure glad I took what they were offering. My timing was right on in my opinion...

they miss you guys and the y work they were proud of doing
5 engineers across Utah walked out the door today... contractors will pick up the work.
What I don't get is, why you have to find out in a phone call from your coworker at home over the weekend, that your boss walked him out Friday morning. Furthermore, whenever anything goes down at the company, you have to turn to this website to find out because there is no communication, just secrecy at Centurylink. The spineless boss doesn't even have the decency to send out an email or call and let the workgroup know he just cut it in half.
"What I don't get is why they let guys 70+ stay and get rid of guys not old enuf to retire. "
Because you can't tell people they can't work, second they know their stuff, they can even spell "enough".
You mean age discrimination. Um. Not legal not even for levrl3

"In order to lay-off a union employee in Vegas , company must lay-off all contractors first. The company will not be able to use any contractors for one year only bargaining union members. I don’t see any of this in Vegas we still have I&R and BMO contractors. Sounds like fake news. "
True, but history has shown they will locate contractors in unmanned locations and, on routes without in house people there and are only held accountable if someone blows a whistle.
They started walking people out here in VA first thing yesterday morning. They even got the MRO who had a lot of time with the company, so it's not just techs now. Not sure of how many techs are gone just yet, because of the sneaky, underhanded way they did it. The SRO in our area avoided our phone calls all day when we tried to get answers. We did hear they are not done and there are going to be techs getting reassigned to other areas beginning next week.
Keep on talking about what the company can and can not do, but as contracts expire in each state you will see what the company can do. Just saying!
