No 2020 vacation for furloughed employees

Contacted payroll and labor relations today about getting paid for my vacation that was earned in 2019. Labor relations and payroll both told me the company decided they weren’t paying it and to contact my local chairman to file a grievance. Once again the RR f—s the working man

If you still had unused vacation time in 2019 and were laid off in 2019 then you should be getting that paid now. the vacation earned for 2020 is what they are going to make you wait for.

Seems like a good way for a ceo to save his money. I say kudos to the reason there is a railroad: me. Come down to Atlanta and do something about it if you don’t like it. That’s what I thought.

You actually can withdraw from 401k but as mentioned below, you will be penalized. It’s not worth it

You can indeed withdraw from a 401k before 59 1/2 for a hefty penalty, which I will do to feed my family. You should do your homework!

No 401K will allow you to withdrawl the money before 59.5 years old, or a personal hardship. You should have been told or even known that before enrolling in the 401k. You got to do your homework when investing your money.

I have been furloughed for six months I asked about vacation and was told same thing get dec 2020 or resign. So I didn’t want to but decided to get my 401k money nope can’t do that either while company keeps you in furlough vanguard want let me roll over or cash out my 401k only way is to resign. Worst company ever!

i called last week and they said it’d be processed for the 17th of January. This morning I spoke to them and they said everything had changed and the company won’t pay it until December 2020, only way to get it NOW is to sign your rights away. I’m signing mine tomorrow, I want nothing to do with NS. I was finished with them when they took my 13yr career from me and almost financially fuined me.

My general chairman is useless! What do I do about that?

If you were furloughed in 2019 and accumulated the required qualifying days for vacation in 2020 you will be paid for your time. This is contractually agreed upon in our CBA and the company cannot decide to "change policy". You do have to wait until the end of 2020 and request in writing to be paid for your earned time. The reason being because you are still technically connected to NS on furlough status and could be called back for work. Contact your General Chairman and they will advise you the same as I was.

Man, y’all lie, lie, lie. I called for mine and they gave me zero problem. They said it was processed to be paid on 1.17.20.

Vacation is earned not given, according to law... It is earned as layed out in company policy ... once earned must be payed ... just as payroll must've payed.
If you had2020 vacation schedualed it must be payed as scheduled... if not the company can hold your money untill last week of the year.
Apparently they are doing so in an effort to cause as many as possible to resign...
Good luck folks..

I wonder if all the railroad superstars who are on layoff are regretting that extra mile they all went to save the railroad? This is how the railroad says "thanks for all your hard work. Your reward is: not giving you what you should be entitled to"

Get a lawyer then. You earned it, you get it. You only lose P-Days.

I too was told that they had changed the policy this week and weren’t paying it at all

This has already been talked about. You’ll get it at the end of Dec 2020 if you qualified for it last year. The only way of getting it quicker is to sign your rights away and resign. If you have any personal days that haven’t been taken, you will lose those.

They aren't going to pay it till December 2020. But they are going to.
