Engineers are Engineers no matter where they live. What I noticed about the Engineers in India is that they put schedule in front of quality. Since they're not in charge of a program start to finish they just do their part and are not held responsible when it doesn't work or has to be reworked. Their designs are thrown over the wall and the domestic Engineers have to make it work.

Of course I've seen that domestically also. Engineers create a mess of things and then move on to another company. I retired early and didn't answer any of the desperate phone calls asking me for help after I left. They were so glad to get their hands on my band 4 status and give it to someone else....then had to nerve to email me and ask me to come back as a contractor.

Engineers like people are the same everywhere. You pay more for people with domain experience.

Boeing thought they got a good deal by paying less for productive and energetic young engineers. They are now paying to relearn the lessons that displaced experienced engineers learned 30 years ago. The cost is too high in my opinion.

I am a hardware engineer under the age of 40. My grandfather built buildings in NYC. My father and his brother wrote software in the aerospace industry. Engineering instincts have been honed across three generations in my family. Don’t mistake my deliberateness for a lack of energy or a lack of enthusiasm.

The comment about India running circles around... is a symptom of the messages and culture Honeywell’s current leaders are creating. It disgusts me when I see videos of aerospace leadership telling one group of engineers how much better they are than other sites. That isn’t leadership. It borders on racism in many cases. Any leader that would criticize one team in front of another is not my leader.

Meanwhile telling me that profits paid for those privileges afforded to the more desirable software talent just emphasizes the word profit.

We are told every day that we aren’t competitive and that the sky is falling. When was the last time somebody showed up with champagne and celebrated the profit that irv says we are generating?

Meanwhile the message i do hear is that hardware engineers ( and reliability, asic, test, and production for that matter ) need to leave. We aren’t wanted and we certainly aren’t celebrated down red carpets with fast track programs.

I’m not whining. I am grieving.

Given these messages I had no choice but to take action. My new job is lined up. I am arranging for my home relocation to match Xmas break. I will work until a week before my new start date. “Be Loyal” is not a value honeywell teaches anymore.

Last HW guy please turn off the lights in lab. Software weanies don’t like bright lights.

Agreed. Used to get fairly good information about changes, rumors, etc. but in past 4 years lots of posts where people just complain, often post inaccurate stuff, and the usefulness of the site has gone way down hill. I stop by and check it every month or two but almost not worth it anymore.

Sadly, this thread has people posting that just want to stir the pot and generate negativity. Get another hobby.

Not sure where the mic drop happened or why irv needs to respond. Bangalore has been running circles around the phx engineers for more than a decade. Not sure why you don’t just admit that the engineers in India are better, smarter and more innovative.

xat just dropped the mic! Can you lift it up and retort?

Of course he loves honeywell.

I recognize him from the genesis program.

How many engineers are in a small group that is rotated around from site to site and then given their pick of the job they want.

Smart folks worth every Ruppie of their salaries, but their experience is far from typical.

Ps young podcast guy —. Do you have student loans? Raytheon will match your student loan payments with 401k dollars to help you save money. Just saying.

  • Irv. The money to facilitate the software transformation was generated by the deer valley and 34th street site products.

I did. Found it to be very inspirational. Thought he summed it up well. Was good to hear from someone with a fresh perspective versus all of the Deer Valley and 34th street engineers that post on this site.
