I have been talking to some people and have been surprised to hear of the amount of people resigning and jumping ship on the RR from their craft position jobs. I mean why lose your (backup plan) callback rights and roster position to gamble on another job. Dunno about you, but Im gonna ride the Titanic till it sinks, use my 5 months of insurance/unemployment to make the state pay for me to get a CDL and then try to get another job

I quit. And my gamble paid off. I would have been hit in this last layoff
I was a CO/EN. I had enough of the company and set myself up with a good plan to go back to school. I did not consider it any bigger of risk than staying and being left with nothing. I also did not want to deal with the company any longer. I did not find it worthwile to stay. I quit them before they could quit me. I never worried because I believe in myself.
Good luck.
A ton of people both agreement and non agreement have quit in conway
Get a CDL if you never want to be home and work for minimum wage. Why do you think the trucking industry is always hiring? Why do you think so many former truck drivers now work for the railroad? You think the railroads are bad for eating people up and spitting them out. Plus 90% of all trucking jobs are non union.
We had two quit at our location in the past 3 months. I have to agree with the OP though, theres no guarantee you'll get laid off, so why pull the plug unless something vastly better is out there? Actually, now would be the time to get the CDL just in case. I would love to but my work hours and rest days wont allow me to attend class.
I`m not sure if it is through the states unemployment office or the retirement board since they are handling the unemployment, but I know of at least 2 laid off railroaders getting their CDL schooling totally paid for as part of "workforce retraining" Ask about it if you get laid off. It is a thing, kinda like a free $6,000 dollars.
Just wondering, how do you know there is no call back anymore? Did the national announce something? Thanks.
May I ask how you are able to get the state to pay for cdl training?
Hell with call back rights. I have a family to think of. I cant wait till it's my turn to hang I had to guarantee income for my family
Call back rights...new railroad hoss ain't no call back..lol
Depending on how long you have been employed depends on how long you can collect from RRB unemployment.
What do you mean by "unemployment RRB goes by years of service"
It's 3 months of insurance and the rest of the month you are let go.
It's 4 months of insurance. And unemployment RRB goes by years of service.
