Thread regarding CVS layoffs

This isn't a horrible idea

Managers and pharmacists asked not to really discuss it openly quiet yet. Not every store will be affected. Some only RX, some both, some coming off 24 hours. No layoffs if that’s what you are worried about. Corporate will make this public mid December with change of hours signing etc.

This really isn’t a horrible idea. Times are different now than when we were extending hours to keep up with the competition.

OP is @11G0hkO8-zib.

Stores that are fully staffed are worried about hour cuts. If they could do it in a way that doesn’t cut hours, like have more overlap it would be great, more things would get done. But cvs is notorious for cutting hours and it would be naive of any front store staff in a fully staffed store to not be nervous. You need to work a certain amount just to get insurance.

Supposedly the changeover in hours wasn't to happen until January 12, 2020. And they better not go to midnights near christmas again, I HATE that. We haven't had any midnights in like 4 years. We do virtually NO business after 10pm. Basically we just stay open for 2 extra hours just to stay open for 2 extra hours. Word I heard is that the reason for midnights near christmas is so that we can get more store work done, but not sure if that's true.

Guess our hours are not changing. Got an email and we are open until midnight the week of Christmas.

I wish we were all on the same team but we're not. Rx has always felt and acted entitled and DL's treat them totally different than front store. National Tech day manager paid out for lunch for JUST the rx per DL. National Pharmacist Month supposed to do something special for Pharmacist. FS managers are told to support RX every time they call us we jump. PICs are not managers and don't want to be. We hire for them and fire for them. I know how busy my rx team is and I help them all the time and even like them but getting tired of being treated like front store isn't as important as pharmacy (especially when you have a Pharmacist DL). Sad when I have to buy my front store team a lunch separate from rx because I don't want them feeling left out. Going to RX hours also.

I understand what you’re saying, and not to sound negative but I know too many people who are tired of the constant nights and weekends, and would love to get to leave early on Saturday and Sunday, or even at 9pm on weeknights. Let me ask you why exactly does the pharmacy close early every day of the week? We ask the FS to stay open late for their sales numbers or to “be there for our customers”, and yet we don’t ask the same of the Pharmacy. A complete and total double standard anyway you look at it. We tell the RX you can have off on holidays and be with your families and the FS? Sorry you’re open!

How do you answer a customer who’s yelling at you because it’s 6:30pm on a Saturday night and the pharmacy is closed, and the whole reason the customer is there, is because they got the robo call saying their pr-scrip-ion is ready for pickup. We deal with a lot of hell from customers who are constantly complaining that our pharmacy closes too early on weekends. It would be really nice to not have to deal with that anymore because we both close at the same time.

You talk about “sales numbers” but neglect to understand the human aspect behind that. Because if the store is open late than someone has to be there. Now yes employees want and need their jobs, but it’d be nice to get a break once in a while. The front store matters too. I know the RX is under just as much pressure as the front store, and things in the rx aren’t any better than the front. But, regardless of that, we are all on the same team, and should be treated as such.

@11GIaB14-yyz That may be “fair” for the employees but also don’t the employees enjoy having a job. Every market is different. Just because store A has no customers after 8 ok doesn’t mean that Store B which is in a tourist area that is busiest from 8pm on should have to close early to match the chain.

I know many stores that if they didn’t have late night hours, that would lose at least half of their sales. So when the store closes or runs on no payroll because it has to match the chain, would that be “fair”?

With the hours change pharmacist are going to be under lot of pressure to meet all the expectations. CVS ideology is to have all Rph spend their extra hours to get everything done without getting paid.
Smart move by higher officials.

I agree it's a good idea, except my thinking is it should be FS 9am-9pm 7 days a week. And RX 9am-8pm 7 days a week. And this should be done CHAIN-wide, no exceptions EVERY store should get these hours. Not fair/right that some stores get lucky and get to close early and others have to stay. There needs to be uniformity of policy company-wide.
