How much vacation have your managers restricted for you?

They say unlimited for new hires, but how many days of vacation have your managers limited you to taking?

What he said. I tried taking 1 extra day, manager is not having it because I'm "not going the extra mile" (I just work 40 hours).

Let's play a pretend game. Pretend to work 46 hours a week, let the EEI acrude, and then take a chum back. Repeat every 5 weeks and you are golden. We all know Honeywell is defrauding it's employees to milk revenue while disguising it as EEI. Nothing that can't be fixed by a Union. Just saying.

You're not kidding about retiree health care. That is the ONLY reason I closed my business and went to work for Honeywell. I watched my grandparents and listened to their health insurance woes they had before they were on Medicare, and I'd watched my parents scrimp and scrounge to keep us kids healthy and then really scrimp and scrounge when older. I was first of 3 generations to "give up" on self employment for the "security" of old age healthcare and a pension of a major corporation. The joke is on me.

Same here my pension was forecasted to be at least 4x what I'm now collecting. How about the low cost health insurance we were told for 30 + years we as retirees would be provided with.

My pension when I was hired, was promised to be 3X what it actually was when it was time to take it

If you think you will get unlimited vacation you are one naive fellow.

I also hear that next year, they will survey everyone and pay you what you think you're worth.

The old system was before my time, therefore I know nothing about it. I will stick with unlimited as agreed upon when I was hired.

please explain your reasoning? if you boss does not approved the vacation how do you max out the vacation? i have seen people recently fired for taking vacation without receiving the bosses formal approval.

Management tracks average EEI by individual and your review and bonus depend on hitting 1.15. Ask your boss to show you the tableau chart
Every vacation day lowers your EEI.
No way to hide that your review depends on making up those hours. Aero says You owe honeywell 46 hours times 52 weeks. Take six weeks off and now you need to work 52 hours a week ...every week just to meet the target.

Legal won’t let them put that in writing and they had to recall performance reviews because it got flowed down once.. but the policy remains. They just call it “engagement” now.

I was told by a tier 3 that one vacation day for all of Aero costs around $1 million. He said that the goal of this year is to have all employees to take two days less vacation than last year. My manager hasn't to me about this yet, but I'm expecting it around the end of the year.

Effectively vacation is now loosely based on comptime. For those of you who do not know what comptime is, it is what they used to offer when you worked extra hours or holiday & week ends and where otherwise ineligible for OT pay. you were allowed to take those hours off as compensation for extra hours worked, and it did not negatiely impact your EARNED vacation hours.

So you now have a rather clever scheme to grant unlimited vacation hours, but only if the individual has worked the equivalent or more free extra hours in a given week or month. so if your keeping your EEI really high you are probably going to get to take extra vacation. The method as I see it, reduces the cost of vacation pay, as it is self funded through the EEI. In other words if you want more vacation time, work more hours to build up the you vacation bank from free OT.

The aggregate vacation hours used is slightly higher than years when vacation was specified by years of service. But not huge, and has been covered by higher EEIs during that time. Thus, there has been little concern about the vacation usage by Senior Mngt. So, in general, folks are using about the same as before with some exceptions. Clearly, each manager is different and pays varying attention to it, so your personal experience may vary.

Totally depends on your boss. If he/she is overly worried about metrics, likely much less willing to allow time off. I have noticed, at least where I work, that we are so thin on workers my feeling is they can't afford to fire/layoff anymore or have someone who actually does work quit. So if I want a day, I say I'm taking a day and just take it. I am older so I don't care as much.

Unwritten, but enforced, rule is to not take more than what you were allotted under the previous policy. I asked my manager to send me these rules in an email, but he refused. I was already at 240 hours under old policy and have had no problems taking that amount each year since the new policy went into effect.

As far as I know, no one at our site has been denied vacation as long as it matches the number of days in the old system.

I haven’t been limited but I have been told flat out that EEI hours must exceed vacation hours or I would be denied. So I now make sure I charge at least 8 hours a week to general admin after my forty against customers numbers. Most of it is “training” done in the can browsing web sites on my phone.

Fake engagement for fake managers who just got promoted for s—ing up.
