Is there some hidden direction this management is leading Honeywell towards that will miraculously make all of the decisions from the past several years make sense?

It's called Harvest Strategy.
Split all the SBU's and sell off, you wait and see
Management is maximizing their own short term gains. The company and employees be damned. Anyone can see that.
They aren't leading the company anywhere, as you can plainly see. They're preparing for their own personal, well-funded exits.
Because if there is, I can't see it.
