BMC & OCI PIP/layoffs

Are BMC and OCI, two different orgs? Do they have PIPs/layoffs.

Also how is PIP different from layoff at oracle?

I knew someone on a PIP. He wound up getting laid off and got severance. One thing is certain, if you are on a PIP and a layoff is announced, you're gone. And not just at O. Most large companies do the same thing.

The thing about a PIP is that it needs to be well documented, so that the employer can justify the termination. It's much easier and less risky to get rid of people with a layoff. The downside with a layoff is that you can't hire a replacement right away. Of course, there are ways around that too.

PIPs are joke at oracle. One way to get rid of people without severance. I saw one of peer who got promoted and has been awarded bunch of RSUs. He was put on PIP three months after and let go. Grandpa doesn't like giving away stocks.

I thought oracle uses PIPs quite frequently especially in the sales org to get rid off people without having to pay them a severance, rather than due to legitimate performance issues

BMC, I am assuming you are using it as "Bare Metal Cloud", and OCI is "Oracle Cloud Infrastructure". OCI was built on BMC, since Oracle retired their OCI-C or "Classic". So you could think of BMC and OCI as closely the same thing, but not quite, as there are other bits that contribute to the "Infrastructure". A PIP is a "Performance Improvement Plan" and a Layoff is something else. A PIP is a specific targeted action against poor performance (against an individual) that attempts to correct some issues prior to involuntary separation (you're fired!). It is rare for someone at Oracle to come off a PIP, but it does happen. With a PIP, there is no guarantee there will be a severance and you'll be out of Oracle with nothing to show for it. A Layoff is something that usually happens to many people in the organization at the same time. Usually there is a severance associated with a Layoff. A Layoff can be used to get rid of low performers, since there has to be criteria to put someone on a Layoff (or RIF - Reduction in Force) list. There are some subtle HR differences, but it someone is put on a PIP, its because some really egregious behaviour has been identified. PIPs can happen at any time, Layoffs tend to be tied to certain quarters or other broad timings.
