Thread regarding Ford layoffs

The people responsible for quality need to be laid off, permanently!

These are the brand new vehicles being shipped from Chicago to Flat Rock for repairs because they don’t have enough bandwidth to fix them all in Chicago. Another expensive manufacturing quality failure!

Right on - SRD has been a failure. Too many people in jobs they have no business being in. For those left, it is like being Lucy in the chocolate factory. Trying to prevent everything from falling off the conveyor. Problem is, experienced people are outnumbered by inexperienced and no one wants to listen - just invent their own stuff and blow themselves up along the way. Doesn't help that management is just as inexperienced and clueless - and just keep amping up the speed on the conveyor.

What we are now seeing is the abject failure of Hackett's "Design Thinking" and his belief you don't need to know anything about the auto industry or vehicle development. Even while this program was launched and already having significant problems, upper management and Hackett were claiming success and implementing the same bad decisions plus even deeper development and test changes to other programs. Now after ensuring massive failed launches and recalls, they are focused on cost cutting parts. Demanding to find the cheapest material and suppliers. For those of us with experience, it's like watching what was done in the past that nearly destroyed us before.

I’m not an engineer so I don’t know if the issues are design or manufacturing. The last time I call road service for my new escape the tow truck driver told me he tows a lot of 2019 escapes so there seems to be a quality or manufacturing issue that needs to be resolved.

They do have issues. I also have a new escape that has issues starting. It will only start if you jump it so I really can’t drive it anywhere. Dealership can’t look at it until September and they don’t have loaner vehicles. So I have a new vehicle with 2000 miles that I can’t drive for the next month and will need to rent a car AND make a car payment. The quality combined with poor customer service means there will be no more fords in my future.

A design flaw is not a manufacturing quality problem.
We've got product design engineers who are too busy at their NextGen events to learn how to engineer reliable parts.

They do need to get a handle on the quality issues. My friend bought an new escape three months ago and has had it in for air conditioner repairs twice. I leased a new escape in May and it has a reoccurring problem with not starting. Can’t wait until the end of the lease because I’ve had it for just over two months and I cross my fingers every time I start it. After so many issues with it not starting I’ll never trust it.

It’s a cross functional team
The entire team is responsible
We need a better process to get our products to market with higher quality...

  1. . did I mention... It’s not only flat rock.

I'm glad I'm no longer there....this company is sinking fast. Remember the 80s Ford?

We can’t fund the quality organizations - we need the money for Mobility and the Train Station....
