You don't need much R&D from PARC when the plan is obviously to sell to HP. HP gets all existing IP, and they have their own R&D that will develop new technologies. Perhaps any layoffs at PARC are simply an indication that the Xerox/HP merger is closer than we think.

Don't read too much into this until you get more information.
I've been gone for a few years, but PARC always used to operate with a fair amount of outside funding in the form of government contracts, third party contract work, etc...
This resulted in small layoffs happening regularly when adjustments/cuts in these contracts were made.
The question you need to have answered is whether or not funding from Xerox was cut, and whether that was the reason for the layoff.

This should be a significant red flag to all that new or continuing in house research and development by Xerox is not considered valuable to Norwalk.

While most Xerox folk are absent of the position PARC plays within Xerox (basically the technology creation hub of Xerox), any lay-off at the heart of Xerox should clearly spell out the future of this calamity. Of all places to “cut” employees, PARC should be the last resort. Speaks volumes of where this is all going...
